Hi everyone, I am new here. As my moniker suggests, I have been in the other camp back
in the 1980s (when I was young and dumb) I've gradually drifted over to the political left
over the years, as I've come to realize that the right wingers could care less about my
health and safety, specifically in the realm of toxic, poisonous air pollution. (As well as
other pollutions) I've found that the left side of the government is far more concerned
with, and sympathetic to these issues. Hence here I am in the company of sensible people
like yourselves. I am looking forward to reading the great posts here, comrades!

heyas. Welcome
Yeah, I'd agree with you about the pollution. All capitalist models see pollution as a positive move as it increases thier profits most effeciently, while all other concerns are secondary. A system that is not inhibited by cost, can look into alternitives to fossil fuels and ways to reduce wastage without penalisaded for it.
Nice to have you onboard :)

Welcome to RevLeft.
Yes, capitalism doesn't give a shit about the environment. The profit motive is everything, and if there are a few externalities, well, who cares, we're making money!
Mind, there are still "socialists" who take the view that the earth is an unlimited resource, and that we can continue dumping stuff into the sea and the atmosphere indefinitely. It's a pity they haven't all died out.
If you are interested, there are a few threads on environment and socialism, environment and revolution, environment and capitalism etc. in the forums. You could start with the "similar threads" at the bottom of the page, and then do searches as well.
Welcome again, oh, and remember, anarchists have more fun.

Welcome to the forums. Although I have to state up front that I have very little time for someone who has 'crossed over' because of the environment. You should be looking for environmentalist sites and parties. This is not a forum for discussing green fingers but one for those who subscribe to revolutionary social change. If you're not here as part of the workers' movement then you're here for the wrong reasons

Boring fart is boring.
This is a site for discussion of various aspects of leftism, socialism, etc. Otherwise why would we tolerate Cuba lovers, Stalinists and reformists?
The fact is, environmentalism plays a large part in the left today. You might not like it, but so what?
I think you need to examine why this site actually exists, remember, at one stage Stalinists were restricted along with capitalists. Your own personal opinion doesn't count on this matter, except so much as you can influence decisions in the CC.

Boring fart is boringIf my posts are largely "boring" its simply because I know I can't compete with your razor wit

At the end of the day this is RevolutionaryLeft.com, not TreeHugger.com. If your sole attraction to 'the left' is environmental policies then you do not belong here. Period
Just my opinion of course. It might not count for much but I'll not have the likes of yourself monopolise the discourse

It's not your posts so much as your attitude. It reminds me of the "old left".

No, FormerReaganite. Lots of people believe stupid things at some stage of their lives, heck, I used to believe in god.
Anyway, your opinion is of course allowed, and I never did try and monopolise the discourse (at least, not intentionally). I was just pointing out that this is actually a site for leftists full stop (or at least, it always used to be).
If this person doesn't post stuff that you find interesting, don't read it, don't participate in the threads. If enough people act that way, maybe they will go off to another site.
But in the mean time, let's welcome them, here's your chance to work your magic. Convince them that your way is good, don't just drive them off. Explain why worker's revolution is more important than environment.
Because, if you take the attitude you are taking with this individual with everyone, well, you won't win many friends for your cause.
Me, I would like a revolution, and that means convincing people of the superiority of revolutionary politics. It doesn't mean, saying "oi you, this is the wrong forum, fuck off". Anarchists, having fun since 1840 (and much earlier).

Welcome
Usually these kinds of posts are made at the intro section of this forum.
Most discussion of environment actually takes place in the "Sciences" sub-forum; actually it's even called "Sciences and Environment" sub forum.
I could state somewhat safely that many of us are environment-conscious to a degree and feel the need to strive for a sustainable economy as an essential part of/to socialism/communism/technocracy. There are some here that are "very very green" and I see a few, notoriously a user called VG1917 or something like that, who is very critical of the environmentalist scene as it is now. However, some of his critiques might be close to the truth (i.e. there's some misanthropes, primitivists, and people who could be described chauvinistic to 3rd world industrializing countries; but hey that's not all of them...I've meet some cool environmentalists in my campus. I myself might have a few qualms about environmentalists but I'm not opposed to the movement it per se, actually I think they are pretty important.). I'm just stating this just so you know. Enjoy.

Welcome :)
I have had my fair share of criticism on the boards for my environmental leanings. Don't let the sniping put you off as this really is a fantastic site.
