I think this music is alright if you have no brain, and only care about talking, about how tough you are and how many girls you get and how much money you have. Now gangster rap, or Hard core rap is even worse. Now besides the fact that I just dont like rap, the message it sends out is just wrong, there is a responsibility the people have to their listeners, and they fail to see the influnce they have in them. They aren't promoting anything good. Despite all this I have on rare occasion heard some underground hip hop that deals with some heavy stuff those guy's are cool the rest, nahhh. What do you think?

Rap is a terrible excuse for music, if you can even call it that. It has no talent and has no place among music culture. It is the worst shit ever to plaque this country.
Rap is on the top of my list of things I want to do away with. It is probably the only thing. I can't express my hatred towards rap. When I hear those fucking idiots blasting it on their car stereos, I want to hang them by their neck slowly so that they strangle in agonizing pain. I want to fucking skin them alive. Don't get me started. The word just makes me tear my hair out.

rap must DIE

Are you kidding me? What rap have you heard, is the only rap you've heard Nelly, Ja Rule, commercial rap? All of the rap you haven't heard represents your ignorance. Ever heard of a group called Dead Prez, The Coup, 2Pac, these are all rappers who have something to say in their music. A common stereotype about rap is they are all about woman, drugs, and violence, but if you look past the stereotype, the racism, you see good music. No matter if you don't like it, it has something to say, and usually it's a lot of the stuff is what you're talking about on here. If you don't believe me, go search for some songs by Dead Prez, or The Coup, or download the song, "Changes" by 2Pac, and see if it changes your mind. Or, you could ignore this thread and go back to listening to whatever you listen to, but I don't stereotype your music. I will never make ignorant comments about a genre until I fully understand it. So until you do, shut up, before you make a fool out of yourself.

I've heard it all. It may have subliminal messages and shit, and have personal stories, but I don't care. They way they express it just makes me sick. There is no talent and the sound of it is annoying. There is no guitars, or any other authentic instruments. It is just a stupid synthesizer loop with a bass line and it is horrible. I don't care whether it's eminem, ja rule, 2pac, dr dre, LL cool J, queen la queefa, redman, methodman, slick rick, of any other rapper, it is all horrible crap. I am not making a fool out of myself because I have listened to all of these god awful bands. They all are horrible. I may a bit insane with my hatred towards rap, but I HATE it with all my heart, and you won't change my mind by trying to get me to listen to some new horible rap band that sucks as much as every other one. They all sound exactly the same anyway and it never varies at all. Christ, why bother to listen to different artists when you have one. They all sound identical. There is no variety at all. I hate rap not because the music is horrible, but it influences all other music as well. All music today sucks because all the nu metal and pop stars use turn tables and have rap. It is fucking horrible.

Those who say that Rap sucks are basing their opinions off of bad groups. I don't say Rock sucks cause I see shit on MTV. As much as I like Rap I like metal (soulfly, old korn, old metallica, pantera, taproot), and classical.
Listen to groups like:
The Coup
Dead Prez
Jedi Mind Tricks
Atmosphere
Slug
Mos Def
Common
Aesop Rock
Krs One
NWA
Public Enemy
The Last Emperor

This is the title of one of Jedi Mind Trick's albums:
Jedi Mind Tricks - Psycho-social, Chemical, Biological and Electro-Magnetic Manipulation of Human Conciousness

Yea, all rappers are stupid...

I used to hate rap, i got into krs one, and from there on im hooked. RATM actually got me into rap.

If you think the commercial version of a genere of music shows what the entire genere is about then your wrong.
Is Blink 182 showing what the entire punk genere is about?

ratm is not rap in the slightest. And I heard about half of the rap you mentioned and I hate that too. sorry.
and what you see on Mtv is not even rock. So you can put it down all you want and it won't bother me.

I'm sorry I hate rap, but I am just not a rap person. It all sounds the same to me. And it's not even music. It is just crap. I don't mean to offend you but that is how I feel.

You think all rap is bad because you are trying to judge it before hearing it. If you lose all the judgements, close your eyes, and listen to some good rap, you will like it. I guarentee it, because rap is close to punk in a way... there is more out there than what you heard.

The sad thing about the political hip hoppers is that their message is kept down. Unfortunatley main stream rap has nothing good to say. I think that rap, actually has more potential than any other music to influnce the youth of today, thats why I really despise the direction rap has taken. I hear what your saying about the groups you listed but even you must admit there not americas top 100. Therefore there message is only getting out to the core fans who find their music.

LOL, Musical Facists? That is a new term. The problem today is people laugh at you for listening to classical music when they listen to rap!!!! And rap isnt music. When i see a rapper with an instrument other than the drums and hear him or her(women rappers ar 10X worse) SINGING then i can say rap is music, until then, rap is just some loser talking (in rhymes sometimes) accompanied by a drum beat. This is the skeleton that almost all rap "entertainment"(i refuse to say it is music anymore than car horns are musical) is based upon, nothing else. And more power to nirvana, if only that ***** Courtney Love would just disappear. though. I WANT MY BOXED SET!!! oh, i heard the nirvana song "you know your right" is going to finally be released in the US

Oh -- "rap isnt real music?" you sound like my dad. I suppose that you cant hear the words, and its too loud. The fact is that rap/hiphop isnt just music, but a cultural movement, the most significant since Elvis way back in the fifties. If they arent playing real instruments, how come they selll? If the music is bad, why do people like it? The fact is that people who dont lkike rap, dont like rap -- it doesnt mena that its shit, that it has a bad message, its just that it isnt your taste.

Also, the type of hiphop that you seem to hate is the commercial, P Diddy, ja Rule shit. That doesnt show what hiphop is. Its as far away from abstract/independant hiphop as Aerosmith is from AFI. (sweet ska band)

I mean, if you dont like it, you dont like. Dont say its bad. Try to embrace other styles. Oh, and Kurt Cobain IS bad: a loser who couldn't handle fame. But it doesnt mean all music made from a giuter is bad

Rap isnt music. Why do people listen to it? To look cool!
And why dont peopel like country music and classical. instead of listening to this rap shit? You get called a nerd for listening to classical but if you listen to rap it somehow makes you a god.

And Rappers dont have talent either. If you dont sing, you dont have a talent. "Yo yo check dis out dawg" I can rap just as easily as Missy elliot or P Diddy. At least rockers have talent, they sing and play REAL instruments.

I used to hate rap until I discovered more underground shit. I used to think all rap was is Puff Daddy and Eminem (two talentless shit-for-brains), I agree that good hip-hop declined in the late 90's and can't compare to shit like Dead Prez, Public Enemy, Run-DMC, Ice-T, NWA, etc. but Its still fuckin good.

rap died when snoop released, "the game is to be sold not to be told". That was horrible, absolutely horrible. Modern rap is all about how much money one has and cars and material things. Not the most appealing messages. I preferred classical Snoop, 2pac, Dre, Warren G and old Nas.

personally, i hate commercialized rap. i wont go places that repeat it constantly, and i only listen to the radio once a week because all of the stations are filled with it 24 hours a day.
the one time a week that i do listen to the radio is when UCR plays underground hip-hop for 2 hours on sundays. i am an underground hip hop fan, as well as many other types of music. listen to 2Mex, he sometimes talks about EZLN in mexico and stuff like that.
a reason why you can call it music is because some of these guys produce their own stuff, which means controlling the bass, the beat, etc. all of that stuff. some also make the beat. now, if you dont consider that music, then what would you call all of the electronica music?

Rap is a good platform for social commentary: listen to some older stuff from the likes of Tupac Shakur, Cypress Hill, House of Pain (those Irish eyes are smilin'), Onyx, Del and Outkast, just to name a few...

I find the fluidity of diction, rhythmic intensity and offbeat humour that colours most of rap/hiphop refreshing, and although I listen to a lot of drum 'n' bass nowadays, rap is good just as long as it sounds honest...

But I hear you, I cannot tolerate those schmaltzy, "I'm-gonna-be-your-man-this-is-P.Diddy-now-suck-my-cock bullshit that corresponds with popular notions of rap. Now, that's mis-representation! :)

well... where to begin?

I have not read all six pages of this thread, so forgive me if I have restated something.

Brian, GNN is using one of those "untalented bastards" to make a video. Eminem's song "White America" is the song that GNN has chosen to portray in a video.
http://www.guerrillanews.com/white_america/Flash.html (give time for the animation to load)

The coup's ride the fence is the first song I heard and I was really impressed. The thing that sold me was the video for the song. It was just amazing.

I'll see what else I can say about rap after I read more posts.

Why were Tupac, and Biggie dumbasses? They are responsible for more than 50 percent of the rapper's styles that are out right now, and have changed rap forever. Without them, rap wouldn't be at all like it is right now? Give me some reasons why he is a dumbass too. It's obvious you know nothing about Tupac, nor Biggie, and are just judging based on the shit you've seen on MTV, or your friends opinions. People that say all rap is about women money and cars are a bunch of closed minded bastards.

Listen to Talib Kweli and Mos Def, the Roots, Dialiated Peoples, Blackalicous.

samaniego, have you ever heard of those people? No well then shut the fuck up.

People like you are closed minded assholes who just assume shit about things.

Not all rap is commercial. Learn some shit before you talk.

3rd August 2002, 23:09
oh yeah to clear this shit up there is a difference between rap and hip hop

rap is just rappin.

Hip hop includes rap, Djing, etc. Hip Hop is a culture as well as a type of music.

These people who trying to put hip hop down need to shut the fuck up.

Don't put down a genre because some good can come out of anytype of music.

It is fucking horrible.

dumbass

THe Roots have a drummer a bassist and guy on the keys so fuck your no instrument theory man you fuckin prejudge shit.

Damn you just don't fuckin get it all you fuckin do is sy its all the same. YOu don't know shit about rap

And you know what it does take talent, can you rap? No? Then stop talkin shit

Rap is garbage. THERE aren't even instruments except maybe drums. All rap does is give people this whole idea of "coolness."
Coolness is shit. Being cool is being an intolerant sheep.

Jay-Z and Missy Elliot reallly need to have a trip to a labor camp.

The roots have people on instruments so shut the hell up.

Damn all you muthafuckas keep badmouthing rap but you don't know shit about it.

Mazdak you are a dick. The Roots have insturments.

Also can you rap? Didn't think so.

Who said we don't like classical? I like classical. Stop telling me what I like.

They are responsible for why rap is the way it is now, then they do suck even more. That whole stupid hip hop culture thing is pretty screwed up and i never liked it. This whole "yo talk" and giving people the idea that money and women are everything. And Brian- exactly my point. RAPPERS HAVE NO TALENT. Even if they are trying to spread a message. Che spread a message and i bet he could have made a career rapping. I could make a career out of rapping!! And women rappers look and sound like men.

Have a nice day

I'm sorry we should assimilate to your opressive white culture?Man fuck you.

Hey lad,
I try my best to keep an open mind. I like Reggae. That is about as open minded as it gets for me. I just don't like rap period. I don't like comercial rap, I don't like advertisement rap, I don't like revolutionary rap, I don't like blue rap, nor do I like red rap. I also do not like black noise terror sound wave magical rap, or any other type of rap you can mention because it all sounds like crap. That is the reason they gave it the name rap because it rhymes with the word that describes its sound. It i not music it is crap. If I thought that there was a difference in them I would listen to them. But I see no difference. I only see that it is annoying synthesizers and talking. I do not like it. I will never like it. I do not mean to offend you but i just don't like rap. if you like it, that's fine. You are perfectly free to listen to what you like. I simply do not apreciate you calling me closed minded because I do not like to listen to complete crap. I'm sorry again for low-blowing rap but you must understand that I hate it with a passion. Since you do not like comercial rap, I still have respect for you. I simply do not like rap. Do we understand each other?

Lardlad95
3rd August 2002, 23:29
Well I listen to hip hop any way which doesn't rhyme with crap so...what you got to say now.

No we don't have an understanding because it isn't fair to generalize an entire genre.

Thats being closed minded. I don't like country but I'm not gonna say I hate all country cuz eventually I will hear a country song I like.

No offense but you are being closed minded.

I think it's very sad that some people hate rap with 'a passion'. This is one expression that ghetto youth pour their souls into, and you call it crap? And when dissing hip-hop, that's even worse, cuz you are disrespecting a lifestyle, a moment striving for Positivity. There are people who pimp the culture, and those are the people you see on MTV. It's perfectly ok if you don't like listening to it, but I think a lot of people replying to this thread sound prejudice.

I am not being a hypocrite. If I liked rap, I would not be afraid to admit it. And I NEVER under any circumstances, dissed punk when it first came out. Hell, I wasnt even around when it first came out. I simply like it when it first came out. And as far as dissing a culture, boo hoo. I hate rap and it's culture. I am sick and tired of people saying "yo wussup dawg" "yo foo, want a g ride brutha" "homy, I wanna pop a philly in yo bizzut"

It makes me sick. As far as my hating rap goes, I am prejudiced. I will admit it. I am the music Hitler. I despise rap, with an undescribable hatred. Rap is the only music where I can say that I HATE the entire genre. Rap is not even music, therefore I am not a music nazi. Country and bluegrass, are more horrible genres of music. But at least they are in fact music and I do ocasionally hear something I like. Rap on the other hand, is plain garbage to me. I say this without fear of sounding like a conservative parent or a nazi.

I simply hate rap. So yes, I must be prejudiced, since I hate a fad that has consumed an entire nation and taken away that much intelligence and individuality.

You may procede with calling me "not open" minded, because you are right. Like Gacky, I am the music nazi.

I not only HATE rap but I also HATE emo. I am truly prejuduced against certain forms of music. I apologize.

I meant you were being a hypocrite because you like a type of music that was treated unfairly now your treating another type of music unfairly.

Also your being a fuckin racist, your trying to say people who listen to rap (mainly black people) talk like that. I don't go "was up dawg" and shit like that.

>>>I hate a fad that has consumed an entire nation and taken away that much intelligence and individuality. <<<

There are plenty of rappers who are intellegent. Mos Def for instance. But you wouldn't know that would you?

Also was punk a fad? Thats what people said when it first came out. Stop being a hypocrite asshole.

And you people that listen to punk you guys are individuals? Yeah fuckin right. You guys all act the same.

"Rock on Dude!!!" man fuck that shit.

>>.what can I tell you? What else is there for a rap-hating rocker to do<<<

learn to respect people. And stop making fun of black people.

If your gonna do that shit get the fuck off a leftist site you racist bastard.

Look man, I'm gonna let this shit drop

however you need to learn to respect other people.

I don't like punk, but am I gonna go around and insult everyone who listens to it?

No, learn to respect other peoples choices instead of belittling them.

I don't like punk does that make you a dumbass?

I think metal is nothing but wrong notes and screaming, does that mean it isn't music? No.

music is organized notes and beats. So hi hop does qualify.

Think when rock first came out people treated it like it was evil.

Why are you doing that to someone else?

thought id drop in. hip-hop has a little more than beat machines and electric music in it. when i saw the roots live, they didnt even have a DJ, all they had on stage was a drummer, a bassist, a guitar player or two, a rapper, and scratch doing back up vocals and beat-boxing. it doesnt get much more of a band than that. and during Jurassic 5's section of the show, Numark played the drums and xylophone. some of these guys must be given credit.

Let us get only one thing straight here. Punkers are all a bunch of posing tossers. I don't like them any more than you do> I hate them almost as much. Don't automatically assume that anyone who hates rap likes the opposite crap. Punk is about as stupid as rap. I hate punk only not as much as I hate rap. And some of it is pretty good. But I do hate punk as well.

Ah shit. Let us stop this petty fight. Let's stay off each other's music.
