One of my favorite sporting days of the year. The season is fresh, so much hope and potential. On the first day, the Braves beat the Phillies 4-1.

I was unable to go to any games last year but have already bough my tix for later in the month when the A's come to play Texas.

So get you ticket, smell the grass, eat your hot dog and drink your beer--baseball is finally here!

Mon the Twins.

Out of interest, how do you think the As are shaping up this season? Sounds like their ownership is trying to get them to really go for it this season (e.g. getting Giambi and Holliday) instead of going for a Beane-inspired rebuilding, or is that just misreporting?

Anyway, as a Brewers fan things are looking a bit lacklustre, but a win against the Cubs tonight and we can just put it down to early season jitters.

Apparently Wolff, the owner, put out a 'win now' order so Beane went after Holliday and Giambi. Maybe now we can average more than .2runs/game LoL. Though I'm still worried because the old man of the rotation is 25...

I watched that Brewers game, that was a sweet comeback. The A's lost to the Mariners today but hey baseball is a war of attrition.

And I like the Twins chances in the AL Central, but I'd be worried about Detroit.

Yeah, fantastic comeback last night. Especially as Harden was lights out for most of it and most Brewers fans weren't expecting much from Looper. Hopefully will be the start of Rickie Week's long-awaited "breakout year" (especially as I've got him in one of my fantasy teams)...

AL Central looks crazily tight. The Twins always seem to do better than expected and it will be interesting to see if the Indians start to pick up after a dreadful start.

In the UK there is less coverage on the terrestrial chanell five :(

I am considering signing up to MLB.tv or whatever it is called.

I am a White Sox fan Tommy... raging that Crede signed for the Twins and contributed to their victory against us last night.

I'm thinking MLBtv too. All I get here on an everyday basis is the Rangers and they suck, but at least they play the A's a lot.

And yeah the AL central is pretty even. There seems to be a lot of talk even the Royals may have a breakout year, but I kinda doubt it. I'm just glad that the East finally has a third competitive team again so Boston and New York aren't able to get more easy wins than everyone else.

Here's to another October sans NYY/M!

Oh, and out of curiosity, are any US sports popular on that side of the pond? Or is it all kind of a specialty thing, like European 'football' is in the US?

Five aren't showing the baseball this season as they're dropping their coverage of all American sports. MLBtv is well worth it though in my opinion.

I'd say that all American sports are pretty much a speciality thing in UK, although the attendance figures for local American sports teams tend to be considerably higher in places like Germany than in the UK (and, of course, there's areas of Europe where hockey is pretty big).

In the UK there's still a following for American football stretching back to the halcyon days of the Bears. There's relatively well established hockey and basketball leagues, although the hockey league can be a bit of a farce. Baseball is probably the poor relation to the other three as a result, but there's not all that much in it.

Anyway, I guess its better to be a White Sox fan than a Cubbie!

It sucks that Five are dropping the coverage. It was a great after club drunken watch.

Anyway, lets go Mets.

I haven't been, and I can't condone the public funds spent on it, but CitiField looks gorgeous. The only thing I dislike is the name, really.

They showed a picture of Shea, now a heap of rubble. And honestly, I don't think it has ever looked better :D

Ah, well, looks like we can commiserate together through the rest of the season. At least it looks like Braun has rediscovered how to hit - now we're just waiting on Hardy and Fielder. Still, if Jeff Suppan can get a win then anything is possible...!

So, let me know how the season is progressing so far for your team. Who's been doing better or worse than expected, which new players are on the way up etc etc...
