Anyone have any comment on Zach de la Rocha's use of the word "nigger?" He uses it a few times in a couple of songs. Is it OK?

he prolly said 'nigga' but it's still a difficult topic for a white guy to use that word, for instance Eminem never uses it

Hahaha, Zack is half Mexican, and he only uses the word as a satire, OBVIOUSLY he never means offense. Cypress hill uses Negro as offensive all the time too "With my Magnum, taking out some negros" see, so dont get tight about it.

Natalenko, he says "takin out some hutos." i.e. "pigs" not "negros"

I think it's ok since he's clearly not racist.

whats putos? I though the slang (in spanish) was hutos (spelled phonetically).

the word puta refers to sluts and putos is just the masculant form of the word

Actually, Zach has never WRITTEN a song in which he used the word nigger. Remember, Renegades was entirely cover songs. I think it is a little controversial, but he is a rather dark-skinned brotha. Plus Tom Morello is half black, and he apparently didnt have a problem with it. It was necessary to keep the cover songs in their original form. If he WAS white, then, no, he couldn't have gotten away w/ it.

Renegades was entirley covers? Huh. Guess I'm just dumb. I recognized the EPMD song, the Dylan song, the Cyrpress Hill song (umm, what else is on there?). Who originally did Tom Joad and Street Fighting Man (the two I pegged for orginals)

Street Fighting Man is the Rolling Stones. Tom Joad is Bruce Springstein. Renegades of Funk is Afrika Bambaataa. You already mentioned Cypress Hill and EPMD and Bob Dylan, so I don't know the other ones.

i definitely thought that ghost of tom joad was original, very representitive of what they usually play. i agree with how zac uses the word. he means no offense by it, so no harm.

It's wierd. A white person calls a black person a nigga and gets beat up or taken to court. But when a black man calls another black man a nigga, it's just a word, like man or bro. In the end it's just a word that, in some contexts, can be seen as derrogatory because the person saying it may not have the right to i.e race etc.

Zach uses the word "nigga" in the cover of NWA's "Fuck tha Police", if thats what your referring to. As for the word puto, it means either "fag" or "fucker". And yes, he is 100% mexican.

Natalenko

Oki, well he uses Fag in the cover of fuck the police, and Nigger in the How i could just kill a man feat. Cypress Hill.

He was born in LA, this makes him half mexican, also ..... WHY does it matter?

Actually, he was raised in Irvine CA. The worse case of a capitalist, ultra-conservative lackey town in the world. I would know because he went to the same high school I just graduated from. Luckly his parents werent the way most people are in this town, otherwise you could bet your ass there would be no RATM.

people get WAY TO UPTITE when someone says nigga. it means nothing when used in slang anymore just like fag, unless some hypocrit goes beserk when a non black man says it

Don't forget Microphone Fiend, originally done by Eric B. and Rakim

Funny, that this word "nigger" is so bag. If I say nigger, I don't mean it by bad. Besides, it's hard to say "black skinned." Easier: nigger.

Hey, we are all humen. And as somebody said, people call eachother "Gay" or "slut", without meaning it, all the time.

Zach probably didn't say it to offend...
