Hey, I was just wondering what other people's experiences are with seeing fucked up misogynistic posters on campus and around. Despite being on campus for a few years now, I haven't really noticed it until now because I don't generally go to those kinds of events so I don't look at the posters, and for a while I didn't know what I should be looking for.

I saw one today while I was putting up posters with a friend, which was a poster for an event at a bar with a guy whose stage name was "The Dirty theRapist" (!!!). Which is, of course, completely fucked up.

I wound up ripping down the ones I saw, but didn't have time to walk around campus looking for all of them, and gave a couple to friends in the student union who would know what to do. Oh, and I was cursing under my breath and wondering what kind of fucking idiot would choose a stage name like that for like four hours over this (yeah, I have anger problems).

And you don't consider it homophobic of you to just assume that this is a hetrosexual rapist? Sure, only women get raped by men. You make me sick.

Um, what? Aren't homophobes often the ones trying to make it look as if most gays went around raping people?

subvert the posters by putting up your own that protest againt the ones you object to. you could sign the posters with a pseudonym in the style of V for Vendetta - if you know what i mean

I'm taking the piss in an attempt to get this thread rolling, Zero. Personally I find it laughable that someone would be so angry about something so trivial, but decided to lightheartedly preempt any backlash by taking an equally absurd but politically correct stance. This was taken as a direct attack against women by genstrike, yet women were never mentioned. So in effect you have an ambiguous yet offensive stage name for someone, probably to compensate for their crappy repetoire. You never know, he could be this guy:

We have a "white discrimination wall" on our campus where people anonymously should be able to write what they think about discrimination. It has evolved into a warzone, where some people have IRL-trolled it by writing racist, sexist and antisemitic slogans. Most likely just to piss out those who hung up the wall.

Admittedly I do have a bit of an anger problem and sometimes have trouble letting things go, but the poster did also prominently feature a picture of a woman's crotch, so when a poster glorifies rape and features such a picture, it's more than a little fucked up. And if you think a stance opposing the glorification of rape on campus is "absurd but politically correct", quite frankly, you have some serious problems you need to get sorted out.

See, you didn't mention anything about women on the post and yes I was being deliberately contrary. In that case I guess you were justified.

But yeah, my humour is warped and I get off on impotent rage, probably because I used to do the same kind of crap when I was an angry atheist. I used to run around ripping up little prayer pamphlets that people would leave in public buildings and rant at cashiers on a sunday for not opening until 1pm. For all the good it did me I could have just took them home and wiped my arse with them.
