The Dead kennedys were probably the greatest political band that ever existed! Frontman Jello Biafra has been a long time activist, and is still fighting against globalisation to this day. Try finding some of his spoken word cd's. Genius.
Or better still download sum Dead Kennedys if u've never heard of them!
Jello biafra is punk rock!
Agreed! I am in complete agreement, here! I also love The Clash *very* much^_^

''yeh man, jello biafra should have been elected! one of his campaign promises was to make all businessmen wear clown suits. thats what america needs''
haha, hell yeah........... I liked his idea that all yuppies should be sprayed with whiped cream until they leave the area!
And the one that suggests that all toxic waste dumpers should be made to swim in there own waste, until they clean it up!
..........He did have some very good 'serious' ideas too though.
And he did play a one off show at a concert against the world trade organisation with Kris noveselic (ex-nirvana bassist) on bass, matt cameron (ex-soundgarden/pearl jam drummer) on drums, and sum1 else on guitar, with jello singing....they did loads of dead kennedys songs.........anyone know where i can get a copy of that performance? (man, wish i was there.)

Yeah they did view it here (http://www.alternativetentacles.com/bandinfo.php?band=nowtocombo&sd=cExtzoF8um3s3ye2zMQ) under discography.
I've only got "The big Ka-Boom part one" in mp3 format, wich is Jello talking about Sep. 11 if I remember correctly. Besides that I only got a few of their songs as mp3s.

i totally agree the dead kennedys were a great band, its a pity that Jello was the only one who actually believed in what he was singing and what the band was about. the other band members took him to court for restriction of trade- get this because Levis want to use Holiday in Cambodia on a commercial, and of course Jello has principles and told them to fuck off.
his spoken word stuff is probably his best stuff though. he is one very smart guy. recommended spoken word cd are
i blow minds for a living (its quite old but just substitute g bush for g w bush and it might as well been recorded yesterday)
become the media- i think this is his latest one, its a 3cd set.
but please please dont down load it off the net it goes against everything he stands for. alternative tentactles is his own label and he runs it as cheaply as possible with very low profit margins, if any. this guy really supports alternative music by dipping his hand into his own pocket to help bands out. so please lets have some morals like Jello does

while i do have loads of DK and Jello stuff in mp3 form i agree that Alternative Tentacles is worth spending money on...
Thats why i bought a bunch of T-shirts directly of their website and also own a few original DK and Jello CDs ;)
but I can't buy all of it...i'm simply not that rich.
Anyway, when you buy DK albums make sure they're from Alternative Tentacles or buy them directly from the website, because the "New DK" have fought jello for the rights and are now selling "remastered" copys of the old CDs on some marjor.
So make sure you get the real thing.

yup, indeed, What do you think of seaweed and dissidents?
Shock To The System
8th June 2002, 21:26
never heard....wat they like?

seaweed is fucking amazing, they are more grunge like and hard core. Dissidents are pretty good too but more fast and speed metalish. Dissidents is more of a dead kennedys style band but I personally prefer seaweed.
If you like grunge punk then I would definitely recomend mudhoney. They are one of the greatest.
