From the Irish times :

STATE COMPANY Bord na Móna has told workers that it cannot pay a pension to which some of them have been contributing for decades.

The company told 240 workers who are members of its defined benefit pension scheme that its deficit has reached the point where it cannot meet its obligations to them.

If they're not going to live up to their obligations to their workers, it logically follows that the workers should no longer live up to their obligations to the company or the government.

Its been happening to other workers across the country private & public workers . Prime time on rte @ 9 is doing a show about it . Its a f**king utter disgrace . Eamonn Ryan said they may be able to make a compromise of paying 37% of it . Thats an insult if anything . Their spending half a billion over the next two years on "green energy" but they can't pay their fucking workers pensions ?

Its sickening . And to answer your question , under EU law I don't think it is , but what bourgeois EU court is going to bring up the govt about this . As long as the deficit doesn't drop below EU levels they couldn't care less .

This is what the unions get for backing down from strike action.

The green party can never go back from this brutal attack on workers .
