yeh but dude i'm not talking specifically about nu-metal. i am talking about the music industry in general. i mean you would never have band like The Doors in thecharts nowadays. They had fucking 5 minutes of organ solo's man, its brilliant. now it's just boring catchy shite.

Man, I was just thinking about this earlier today. Music is a business, a capitalistic business at that. We have MTV, BET, VH1, MMUSA, etc. peddling this horseshit 24 hours a day. But its not just today--its been like this for a while. Chuck D from Public Enemy "The radio is controlled by sucker in suit, slicked black hair and he don't even live here" in "How to Kill a Radio Consultant."

Look at rap. Whose number one? Jay-Z, Nelly? While Jay is a very talented rapper he ain't saying shit. He raps about diamonds and champagne. Nelly doesn't even have a musical bone in his body. Fucking Eminem is saying absolutley nothing. Look at that song, "Pass the Cuovassier" That song is damn commericial for Hennessy Congac.

Look at these psuedo metal bands. Creed, Staind. What the hell are they doing? No talent at all. Even fucking Limp Bizkit sucks. Fred Durst is a sell-out wannabe who spends too much time on TRL.

Its all a business man. Thats why we gotta go underground. Look into your city's talent pool. Local talent in Boston is hot right now. That is where you are going to find the five minute solos. That is where you are going to find the real MCs.

Muscians today have very little to say, aswell and most importantly very little talent. They in no way can have the impact that true muscians with a message and talent can produce. Today grind and metal bands suck at least the ones that they give record deals to. Its the same fricken cords, and only two changes in the whole song. Now look at stairway to heaven the intro alone has moremusical integraty than 99% of the shit today. I personally cant stand music today and it's rare that I would ever give credit to a new band.

When I saw this post, the first thing that came to my mind was Led Zeppelin.
one reason the current music is sub-standard is because of the attention span of the audience -- bands use to have atleast a 10 or 15 year run because they had a very loyal fan base. Not true anymore. The other reason is obvious due to it being commerically manufactured, (those generic boy and girl groups)so it looses A LOT musically as far as pushing the envelope to come up with something to new or different. Really, for the most part you can't even call them bands, as most of them don't even know how to play instruments. HA!!!!!!

Why Led Zepplin had integrity is because they were true musicians who always experimented with their sound, equipment and instuments. For example, The fourth album was recorded in an empty two-story English farmhouse, rather than a studio, with each instrument set up in a different room recorded at different levels and piped out through vintage Peavey amps and then later remixed by Page himself. Also all the music was produced by Page, a pefectionist in that respect, who had total creative control from beginning to end. I would say that Page is the best living guitarist, if not THE best ever. he is THE PIONEER of the double-necked guitar, which if anyone has tried to play is incredibly hard if not near impossible to do... (and he played it with a violin bow) And that is why the intro to Stairway is better than anything you will find today as he used the double-necked Gibson for that one. Anyway, I guess you can say I'm a little partial to LZ, as I grew up on their music when they were still a working band and such a Zep freak that "Thank You" was my wedding song!!! If you ever want to ruffle some conservative feathers, be sure to blast Led Zeppelin at your wedding!!!!
But the main reason Led Zepplin has integrity is because they chose to not to continue on when John Bonham died.

Hey Samianegio and FOH and any other Zep fans: gather up your list of 10 best Zep songs and let's see what we end up with.

too true. music was at its peak in the late sixties early 70's and because all the good stuff has all bn done before, everyone copies it. i would say the red hot chili's are the best band band during the nineties and now. i love led zep too.
its quite depressing to see that even music is going downhill. AARRGHHH!

Excellent Niandra, do you have a Best Zep list??? Come on, People, indulge me!!!!
I have to say I was on a decade long Led Zep hiatus, I have heard them way tooooo many times over my lifetime.. but.. FOH and Sami, you comrades inspired me to drag out my old cassette tapes. Distorted they are now by age, wear and tear... I gotta go get them now in the CD format!!! See Comrades-- Look what you've done!!!! Gotta blame somebody! I have to say though. Ive been having a nostalgic good time listening to them. Sorry for Hi-jacking this thread... yup... I'm trying to turn it into the Best of Led Zeppelin!!!! I know.. I should open my own thread. Sorry!

Here's my list, tentative and in no particular order:

1. The Battle of Evermore.. (my particular favorite, a brillant masterpiece-- parts of it remind me of Jethro Tull)
2. Ten Years Gone
3. No Quarter
4. Kashmir
5. Stairway to Heaven
6. In My Time of Dying
7. Gallow's Pole
8. Black Mountain/White Summer
9. Friends
10. Nobody's Fault but Mine

Other Honorable Mentions:
11. The Song Remains the Same
12. Babe I'm gonna Leave you
13. How many More Times
14. Out On The Tiles

ok I agree Page was an amazing guitar player (he is my idol on guitar)but definitly NOT the best guitar player. Jerry Garcia and Jimmy Hendrix....too bad they died.
but I really really liked the post that j made and I agree with it on many levels but I do have someyhing else to bring up. On saturday i decided I was going to go where no sane person has gone recently and expireience what hurt more than a bullet to the stomach-MTV-My story begins
"MTV-and-Sex"
Music now has completly combined with sex...now Im not just saying mtv but mtv has a HUGE part of it. They have this show called sex2k or some shit where they wrap gothic people up in blankets completly naked and pierce their backs. And then they have this show called Undressed where they have like 12 y.o's having sex...the point is, on THE MUSIC CHANNEL they would rather take up the time for MUSIC to play soap operas and shit?? WTF IS THAT! and then when they aren't playing that shit they have shows like "wannabes" where they show fucked up teenagers trying to become their favorite pop-stars. and trl...which let me tell you is as fucking far as I would be able to go if I was locked in that chair in A Clockwork Orange. The #3 top songs are Nelly-"Its getting hot in here so take off all your clothes" then Brittneys shit where she contantly says "get nasty" it's called Boys-

"What would it take for you to just leave with me?
Not trying to sound conceited but
You and me were meant to be (Yeah Yeah)
You're a sexy guy, I'm a nice girl (Uh)
Let's turn this dance floor into our own little nasty world"

K WTF! then what really fucking makes me want to jump off of buildings is that Avril lavigne chick in her video she is wearing bondage pants and chains and then on her website shes wearing a dress and she's on trl and she claims this-
"I'm just coming out and I'm going to clearly be myself-I write what I feel, I never worry what others think, " Avril avows. "I'm gonna dress what's me, I'm gonna act what's me and I'm gonna sing what's me."

thats why on her site shes dressed like a pop-star and has a song called "Sk8er Boi"...Im so fucking confused.

and then after all this poser trash and sex-trash is over the comercials come on to reveal more sex a commercial I recently saw on mtv: two people are having sex in a bed and all of the sudden this man walks in and the guy in the bed goes "Linda whats your ex boyfriend doing here?" and the man's all "Im here to have sex with you Bill" and then all these half-naked people walk in the room and by that time im so fucking confused I screw the re-search of the dreaded MTV and I turn to comedy central...:D. In conclusion popular music now-days is completly without a doubt revolving around sex...WHY!!!? WTF!I CAN'T FUCKING TAKE IT ANYMORE! WHERE THE HELL IS MY SYRINGE??THIS IS HORRIB....

-no authors were hurt in the making of this rant-
yet

the charts are the very least place you should be looking for good music.

in my area alone i'm always discovering new great bands with really amazing unique sounds. Yes, maybe they won't get played on MTV. But when you're at their show and you feel the music, and everyone around you does too - does it really matter what the pop-culture is trying to dictate to you?

The Doors had to water down both the versions of their songs that did chart, and it still wasn't very high. The Doors are one of those bands that reached a level of success (success being relevant compared to, say, The Beatles), especially here in Britain, a long time after Jim had died. Its a shame really. :)

As for Led Zepp songs, Ramble On is my number 1. Can't be arsed to type out the rest.

The double necked guitar is simply a twelve string and a six string on the same guitar. It was created so you would not have switch guitars in a song like "Stairway to Heaven" where both a twelve and six string guitar are needed. If you know how to play guitar then playing a double necked guitar is NOT HARDER. You are not really using both necks at the same time.

A bow simply changes the sound. Again if you know how to play guitar it is not that difficult to do.

Jimmy Paige is an amazing guitar player. The riffs that Zeppelin came up with are truly amazing. However, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, Jerry Garcia (very under rated), Duane Allman, Stevie Ray Vaughn were all more instrumental in broadening the versitility of the guitar.

Hey Bow 4, Just wondering: What guitarist do you like, or should I say, do you think could be considered the best of his kind? Page, as you might know has been called the Stravinsky of guitarists, tis a hard thing to dispute with all his brillant alternate tunings and his scale progressions.

I already stated I really really like jerry garcia and Hendrix also eric clapton and peter green, robin trower and mark knopler is a god...what makes him amazing is he finger pics, ched akins is good, very fast when he finger pic'd...him and knopler did an album together it was great... lots of good guitarist

with the hendrix situation I think jimmy was the best of his time and no one else was better, but once he died people started going past him, like jerry garcia
