Anyone have any advice about Valium (recreationally)? Can you take it and be alert the next day? Will you def fall asleep? Does cannabis mellow or enhance the effects?

I've never taken valium, but I have experimented with other benzos, notably xanax and klonopin. From a recreational standpoint, I found them to be useless drugs. They made me tired and clouded my mind. I did a bunch of stuff I wouldn't have normally done, and I don't even remember most of it. Most of my memories of my benzo experiences come from other people. Some people like benzos, but I have yet to figure out why.
I would think you'd be fine the day after; benzos don't give ya much of a hangover, you just sleep it off. As long as you're not laying down, you shouldn't fally asleep. You may feel tired and drowsy, but it doesn't take too much effort to keep yourself awake, nothing like a strong opiate nod.
Does cannabis mellow or enhance the effects?
Never used 'em both at the same time, but I reckon you can scour the trip vaults at erowid to get a good idea of the combo.

Thanks.
All i could find on erowid was people knocking the effects of valium off with cannabis, like it basically negated it. I'll have a bit more of a browse.

What a coincidence.
I took half a 5mg pill and shared a joint with someone a few hours ago. The dazzies (as they're called round here) added a strange extra dimension to my high. At the peak of the pill effect I felt really chilled out.

I could go for some benzos- but I'm an anxious person so it's self medication/for the sheer enjoyment of being relaxed (an unusual event in my life).

I've never had valium, actually. However I very much enjoy the odd bit of prozak now and then  Are they quite similar?

I have friends who are really into benzos and from what I understand, they see Valium as a "taper" drug... basically, benzo withdrawals ain't nothin' to fuck with, and they use Valium like methadone. It's not particularly potent in the grander scheme of benzodiazepams.
I've personally taken more powerful benzos that I can't even remember the names of (lorazepam? I think) and they're only really good for passing the time - planes and car trips and such - and coming down off of crazier shit.
One thing to remember is that they completely kill the negative effects of uppers. Take a couple before you do your lines and you won't have the jitters or any cravings. You won't even want to do any more blow. Of course, this is the reason why my friends are addicted to benzos, so... just be careful.

30th March 2009, 14:20
Also, mixing weed with benzos isn't really anything special. If you're the paranoid smoker type, it might help, but otherwise it's just two different highs going on at the same time... not that great of a combination. You will probably be groggy as fuck when you wake up, though, but that depends on how much you consume.

No. Prozac is an SSRI used for depression. Valium is a benzodiazepine used for anxiety.

Having a tolerance to 15mg doesn't give me much standing in terms of advice, but the hangover from codeine I woke up with today was much worse then anything I've experienced on Valium.
I wouldn't say the latter enhances the effect of THC but they make a lovely combination if you just want to relax.

The trick is to find a friend shortly after you've finished reading and relate all your drug-fuelled insights to them. This may work better if they're high too (but preferably less so than you, otherwise they might be forget as well) - this is also the only instance where reading Marcuse is advisable.

^--- perhaps Marcuse himself employed this strategy when writing.

Yes, very much so. I used to use a lot of Benzodiazepines. Valium wasn't that great, but I remember it feeling better than Alprazolam. Halcion is worhtless, so is Klonopin - you take a lot of either, and then you have a momentary lapse of reason. Then back to normal... blah.
Frankly, I bet you will love the shit for a week or so (xanax mostly, but Valium is fairly similar). Once you get used to it, and you can actually clearly remember how you felt on it, you'll realize that it doesn't feel good whatsoever. The only "good" feelings you get from it are the relief of anxiety and fears. Recreational use is almost worthless once you get over that feeling.
So, use it as a tool. I (used to) use it when I know I have a long or shitty day ahead of me. Basically, if you want to really remember and enjoy whatever experience you are having - particularly hanging with friends - don't use this mind-numbing crap. But if you know your life will be a dull, worthless experience for the next 8 hours take some. If you take a lot you WILL be endangering yourself. You can really lose control if you take very much (read those Erowid experiences).
So yeah. A tool, not a toy.

This drug sounds like it would really help me get through my shifts at work. Does it have physical effects, ie will I still be able to move around, possibly quickly and get (monotonous) shit done?

From what i read - and depending on the dosage - you might get rubber legs and things of that nature. Basically valium is a muscle relaxer, a friend of mine was prescribed some after they had muscle spasms in their back. So it would effect your movement, i haven't taken any yet so i can't say how much, but i would think that it would slow you down and maybe make you feel lazy/unmotivated.

Yeah, it makes you very tired. Probably not good for work since you just won't get shit done and might actually want a nap.
I had about a five-year addiction to Xanax - a benzodiazepine very similar to Valium. My habit came as a result of a doctor's prescription, so I can't say much about recreational use, but I would advise you to be extremely cautious. It is very easy to become addicted, and the withdraw is nothing short of horrid.
Personally, I prefer to stick to weed and the occasional psilocybin experience (which is more spiritual than recreational anyhow). But everyone is different in that respect, I suppose.

Point is it uses the same receptors as alcohol, you wont feel the effect before it's to late and you go on a rage or die of alcohol poisoning.. The coctail is mostly only preferred by big dumb muscle types who like the rage it gives them.
Through my work I treated a fair amount of benzodiazepine users, and seeing the effects I wouldn´t suggest anyone starting with it. It is the ultimate paralyzer drug, people who use it regurlarly have no drive whatsoever and mostly resembles zombies in my oppinion. There is a fair amount of people that have used them everyday since they first came out in the 50'ies under names such as Librium, and basically they have had no life to speak of in that time. Absolutely horrid if you ask me.
Only thing they are good for is treating alcoholism and when used then one should have a plan of withdrawal within a week or so. Also some people like scizophrenics can have good use of them, but the effect of bezodiazepines are also totally different on them.

Exactly. I would say that Xanax is the most alcohol-like of the bunch. Mixing with alcohol is a recipe for disaster - a clsoe friend did it, shit was terrifying.

Seriously the kind of person that talks about "druggies" is both a hypocrite and a moron; a hypocrite because they are more than likely to take drugs themselves (both medicinally and recreationally [think asprin and beer]) and morons because they don't know shit about drugs for the most part.
