Anyone here like death metal and bands such as Slayer, Sepultura, Cannibal Corpse, Crytopsy, Dying Fetus, Living Sacrifice, Necrophagus, Embodyment, Engraved, etc.

The lyrics are mostly mindless gore (which isnt necesarily bad) but some of the lyrics that are insightfull from some of those bands are quite leftist (especially Dying Fetus).

I like Slayer and some Cradle of Filth but it ends there. I hate the vocals...so ugly. Hardcore punk and noise sound so much better....Will Haven et al.

Yeah, The Strokes are semi-decent (i wont call them amazing) and Cradle Of Filth are the scum of the music industry.

why do people insist on labelling heavy heavy metal as death metal, I once too branded this type of muzik as death metal, always jokin, like, doing the low pitch voice thing and grumbling out demonic overture....backwards, listing off the necronomicon....Until I began to work next to this dude from Switzerland who is in a 'Heavy Metal' Band, of course I joked with him for a bit, but then he started to play some shit for me, explain the compexities of the music, and just through seeing his passion and getting to know him as a person, I was suprised to unearth that death metal wasn't about this shit that so many people label.....whatever, I just had to get that off my chest. I don't mind some slayer, new band Iced Earth, but old Metallica is pretty sweet, good lyrics too.

The only Cradle of Filth song Ive heard is "Her Ghost in the Fog" and it seems more towards the line of goth metal rather than death metal.

Zippy
10th May 2002, 00:55
Dani Filth isnt a goth, he is a ****. Joy Divison is goth, The Cure are goth, Bauhaus are goth - Cradle Of Filth dont even deserve to be put anywhere near those bands.

Zippy; i'm really on a "i hate Cradle Of Filth" bender today, but i feel passionately about this. :)

slayer is fucking amazing, I'm not too crazy about that other stuff though. What would u call Metallica and Pantera, or even napalm death? they are also fucking awesome bands in my opinion. If u really wanna listen to good music though, listen to NIRVANA. GRUNGE IS GOD!!!

El Brujo
10th May 2002, 03:59
Metallica is thrash metal (there older stuff anyways) and Pantera was hair metal (ugh) during the 80's and from "Cowboys From Hell" on is a fusion of thrash metal and death metal. Both groups are fuckin sweet as long as you avoid Pantera's stuff before Cowboys From Hell and Metallica's stuff after Load.

yeah hair metal does suck my ass (ugh) amen

Zippy - woah, calm down sonny. I just like some CoF riffs. Listen to Cthuldu Dawn (off Midian), that has one of the best riffs ever. You are correct in calling them twats though. I think they are more black metal myself (you have to define between goth indie and goth metal), but in reality, music genres are for bored journalists.

Master of Puppets is a brilliant album. Unfortunately, Metallica stopped being good after that.

Im really glad someone mentioned this thread here .....

coz im a big death metal fan ...... i was even in 2 death metal bands before as vocalist and rythm guitarist .....

My fave bands r Morbid Angel , Slayer ( the old stuff ) , Nile , Deicide , Death , Behemoth , Carcass , Emperor , My Dying bride , Anathema , Inflames , Testament, Burzum...... and lots of other bands .

guys , u should listen to the band DEATH .......

chuck ( the vocalist , lead guitarist and the founder of death ) is the father of death metal ......
and their music isnt about gore and blood , it's all philosophy it soo amazing , and the music is soo technical ( some death metal fans might not like that ) ...

here is some of my favourite death metal songs of all time , and u guys should listen to these :

Skeletons of society - slayer
Dead skin mask - slayer
The Angel of death - slayer
Defiling the gates of ishtar - Nile
Masturbating the war god - Nile
Immortality thru art - Nile
Voice of the soul - Death
The philosopher - Death
Flesh and the power it holds - Death
Where the slime live - Morbid Angel
D.N.R - Testament
Demonical Refusal - Testament
Demon Of the Fall - Opeth
Heartwork - Carcass
Black Star - Carcass
Detsom Engang var - Burzum

Death is an awsome band so is Posessed. Those two and Slayer were Sepultura's main influences.

People often mix up gore and death metal.

Gore is: Cannibal Corpse etc... where the lyrics are about feutuses and body parts etc...

Death is like: Slayer (thrash also), Amon Amarth and to a small degree, Opeth.

Cradle of Filth are melodic, symphonic black metal. Black being satan etc...

I am big into metal.

Anyone here like Opeth, Nevermore, Nightwish, Iced Earth, Children of Bodom? Top bands.

Derar
13th May 2002, 12:32
Opeth and Nightwish fall into the Doom metal category , Iced Earth r power metal like black guardian , ( u gotta check the Demons and Wizards which is blind guardian together with iced earth ) , and children and bodom are like progressive black metal ... reminds a bit of behemoth , just without keyboards ....

And all these bands mentioned above rule !

Yes they do rule but you have your pigeon holes mixed up.

Opeth are prog death, nightwish operatic power and children of bodom are certainly not prog black, they are melodic death.

Sorry to be a nit picker, but they are my fav bands.

Have a nice one.

And, no, I do not listen to Heavy Metal.

Ernestodekam , Opeth r in no way progressive , they r more like melodic with acoustic and same chord structures .........

Have u heard stuff like face of melinda , benighted , and demon of the fall ..........

They r Doom Metal big time !

so r nightwish , just like theatre of tragedy and estatic fear , u can check for the genre if u want on the net ....

And im not sure about Children of bodom , but i'd say they fall into progressive Black metal ....... And they might be Melodic Death , like inflames , At the gates and dark tranquility ........... but the way they change on with their riffs and keyboards all thogether makes them more progressive than the other melodic death bands .
and one thing i dont much like about them is that they use too much keyboards !

For good power/black metal you must listen to King Diamond (though his vocals kind of take getting used to).

Well I didn't take you seriously to be honest, I rarely do... ;)

Mockneys are people faking the Cockney (London) accent. I have a Southern/Essex/London/Kent accent, so my speaking's just a fuckin mess...

Guerrillaradio,

That makes sense now. I've heard of Cockney, and have heard plenty of it. Yes, a fast-paced mess :)

Derar,

While I am not a big metal head, I love your m/ symbol, that's perfect!

Sorry mate, have to disagree there.

I have been a fan for years now and they are progressive, not as in euro prog though. Certainly not doom but have elements. Type O Negative is Doom.

And nightwish, fuck, they are not doom. That is power power power all the way with operatic vocals.

I don't want to have an argument with someone who have great tastes in music and you are entitled to think what you want so don't take this personally.

By the way, I work part time in a shop called Metal Mayem who bring in all types of metal and my workmates agree with me.

Oh well, have a good day.

Sorry Lauren, haven't seen it. Don't worry, though. No one loves me either. As for metal, I'm not so into it anymore, but I still listen to Motorhead (maybe metal, maybe punk, ROCKNROLL either way) and the Obsessed. And I'd say that Sepultura's big influences were Black Sabbath, Motorhead, and Discharge. At least that's what Max said in an interview.

What does everyone think of Sepultura's new vocalist, Derric Green.

MJM
17th May 2002, 15:16
Sepultura was influenced by Ozzy, he helped produce the album CHAOS AD. If I remember rightly.
