yes,
I think that grunge rock is the best music in the world, even if it is not leftist. Anyone here agree? I love Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden,
old S.T.P, mudhoney, Alice in Chains, Sonic youth, Local H
or any other bands with dirty distortion. Any grunge fans
or even heavy metal, which is also kool? Please, I am surrounded by cretans who listen to this god awful rap shit. Rap is the most burgeois, stupid music ever made! for the love of god it is not even music!
p.s industrial sux too (to Gacky)
I like it quite much. I loved it more some years ago but even now I find it great!

Grunge music is the best. I grew up with it. My brother was always playing Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Nirvanaa. I'm a superbig fan of Pearl jam and Alice in Chains (will miss you Layne).

I like grunge but not as much as death metal or hardcore. I like Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, The Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins (a lot of their shit isnt grunge though)and Silverchair.

I saw a history of grunge on MTV2UK not so long ago, and Billy Corgan got really annoyed when someone described the Pumpkins as grunge. Apart from the fact that their noise is too arty and flowery to pass as grunge (which started out as punk rock downtuned), they were from Chicago, which is about a thousand miles from Seattle...

oh! that makes sense. i still think theyre grunge though. :) If Corgan doesn't like it, then he should of turned down the distortion!

Grunge is the best (next to trance). Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, and Alice in Chains are ones that I still listen to everyday.
I would argue that most grunge is "leftist" (what a vague word eh?). Grunge, at its core, is a critique of the state of affairs, an honest questioning of the reason and meaning behind the madness. Who can truly listen to grunge and come away with a vibrant, cheerful, re-enforced sense of the correctness of the 'now'? Nobody, in my opinion.

Interesting idea, but I don't agree exactly. Nirvana sung about isolation, drugs and adolescence, Alice in Chains sung about isolation, drugs and adolescence, Soundgarden sung about isolation, drugs and, erm, adolescence, and the Pumpkins sung about sad stuff. Pearl Jam are leftist, but most grungers were bored and depressed Gen-Xers...

Guerrillaradio,
That is why I don't like Nirvana and Soundgarden as much as the others. I think Alice In Chains captures the 'isolation' idea, as you said, the best.
Pearl Jam is still my favorite, but Smashing Pumpkins is a close second.
Maybe it's just me, but most Grunge leaves me asking why?
Why is it that so many of my generation are depressed?
Why is it that so many of my generation are drug addicts?
Why is it that so many of my generation are bored?
Why is it that so many of my generation are suicidal?
Why is it?
While a great deal of music glorifies fame, sex, money, etc, Grunge steps away from that and shows the (yes, here's that word again) meaninglessness of all of that. Who could possibly listen to Grunge and come away wanting to go down the well-worn paths in pursuit of fame, sex, money, etc?
I am also a huge grunge fan! Its what I grew up with, really. I remember being so heartbroken when Kurt Cobain died.
