View Full Version : How to make war profitable

Thought I might just share my theory on this with you all about how the bourgeois profits from wars.

1) Select a country which has trouble trading on a equal scale to a Western nation. It may have a weak currency and sanctions imposed on it for example. The reason for this is because whatever resources this country has will be traded for far less than what they're really worth, although this comes at a later date.
2) Immediatly prior to an invasion not only strictly military infrastructure is attacked. What also falls under the bombardments is a lot of civilian facilities, particually airports. The effect of this is twofold. It reduces loses to the invaders and also creates some damage that will need repairing.
3) Send in ground forces to destroy any resistance to the occupation, usualy from the defending goverment.
4) Start putting the pieces back together again. Now you have a different kind of army decend on the occupied country. Contractors and lots of them! Thier job is to deliver food to places that were cut off by the bombardments, or to build new airports to replace the ones that were destroyed. They can set up schools and they can even train up the armed forces or police of the new goverment that has been put in power. However, the bourgeois being the bourgeois, none of this comes free. The resources of that country are now open to bieng used to pay off the contractors bills and because they're foreign contractors, they pay tax to thier mother country too. I'd imagine this is where most of the cash comes from.
5) Keep the new goverment in power until all the contractors have finished thier work and been paid. It's also helpful if the invaders use thier own troops to do this as it has the added benefit of ensuring that new goverment doesnt try to leave the resturant without paying.
6) Withdraw the vast majority of troops, keeping the remainder in normal embassy duties and show off the country as a wonderful tourist haven. It's unlikely that the invaded country will have the planes to bring these tourists in, so suprise suprise, the Western bourgeois come to save the day again with thier inflated air fares and taxes.

Any thoughts? :)

If you ignore social costs, war is a win win situation. Destroying infrastructure provides economic opportunity in rebuilding. Using up weapons and ordinance provides economic opportunity to rebuild the aggressor's military. If the new government is a friendly puppet government, weapons sales to the new regime are yet another bonus.

War is wonderful when you're not the one doing the dying or being victimized.
