Hello, my name is Travis. I am from Duluth, Minnesota where I am a part of the Duluth Catholic Worker Community. I am an anarchist and a vegan. I would describe myself as an Anarcho-Sentientist or Sentientist Anarchist. Economically, I would identify with communism though I sympathize with other schools as well such as syndicalism, so one might categorize me as an anarchist w/o adjectives. I am a undergrad college student. My major is philosophy and my minors are political science and women & gender studies.
The left wing scene in Duluth is reasonably active for its size (85,000). Our anarchist community is small but very active. We have an FNB chapter which I am a part of, a bike collective which growing very fast, the Catholic Worker community which is the hub of all the anarchist activity and we have plans for a distro, an infoshop and possibly an IWW chapter. I would also like to see a health care collective formed. For the RNC, the Twin Cities community started a health care collective which is still active.
As far as the non-anarchist left wing community goes, we have a significant socialist community as well. Socialist Action, a Trotskyist Reunified 4th International affiliated group is reasonably active here. Also, we have an anti-war coalition which has a largely Trotskyist bent (the SA members are active in it) with some Maoists, and of course many liberal progressives.
My journey to anarchism was a rather long one. When I was young I started off as conservative, supporting Bush in the '92 elections, then moved over to the Dems later. Flirted with right wing libertarianism, socialism, and later green party Nader-like reform politics. Ultimately, my left wing tendencies and my libertarian tendencies came together and I became an anarchist.
My other main social justice focus is animal rights. I intend to pursue philosophy into grad school, get my PhD, and become a professor. Animal ethics is my primary academic expertise.
I also work as a cook in a Food Co-op deli making hotbar (buffet) food.
