For me that's lyrics which matter the most. But also music of course. And the way how artists are singing!

Ok, more anger spewing from me now...

If the music isn't most important to you, then you cannot call yourself a music fan. You listen to music for the music, not for its intellectual content or the attractiveness of the band members. Get your heads out of the collective arse and follow your instincts for once. Music is made by MUSICIANS, not poets. If you like the music, then the lyrics, then grate, but you can't not like a band cos their lyrics suck. That's going against the whole point of music. It's called M-U-S-I-C for a reason y'know. If you want poetry read a fucking John Betjeman book. I listen to music primarily for the MUSIC (funnily enough). If I like the lyrics, I instantly start to like the band more.

And if you choose the image, then fuck off, you don't deserve to have ears if you aren't gonna use them...

I listen to what ever music is considered ‘COOL’ with the majority of my piers so I can fit in, and feel wanted

Kids are always accused of listening to music that annoys their parents… just to rebel. But, I doubt you would bother listening to music you didn’t care for… so obviously the most important thing in music is… the music…

And once your older( or no longer a slave to the idea of trying to fit in) you can admit to listening to stuff that’s very unpopular…. Like Celtic/Folk/Classical/Jazz/Blues/etc… and be able to say, “I listen what I listen to for me not you.”

It the music for me. Considering that some music don't even have lyrics so lyrics of course would be secondary. Most songs I have no general idea what the lyrics are and find out after the fact. I think It would follow that most people hear a good tune, devlope a penchant for it and then note the lyrics afterwards. Since music is always written before the lyric; except in the case of music video which the germ of the video is thought of first followed by the music and lyric written around it.(arggghhhhhhhh fucking videos!!!!! They did kill the radio star)

As for me, I prefer my music on vinyl, shot through some Bose heavy on the bass.

PS - lets have a separation of music and video in the states.

i agree- music is def. the most important thing- otherwise why would you listen? intrumentals are just as good as songs with lyrics

well in reply to guerilla radios comment:
i agree that music is improtant but I also think lyrics are equally as important. if your listening to a song that has really great guitar and drums and the singer has a great voice but the lyrics are "FUCK ALL THE CHRISTIANS AND JEWS! BLACK PEOPLE SUCK! WE HATE THE WORLD GO TO HELL EVERYONE" aka.death metal (jk!) then you porbably wont want to listen to the song.

just like with food, it could taste good but if its called "Bag'oShit" you might not want to eat it for obvious reasons"

just giving you my two cents

To be 100% honest with you, if Radiohead (my favourite band) were to announce tomorrow than from now on they were Nazis and all their albums would be White Power lyrics, but the music was of the same quality that brought us arguably the two best albums ever written, I would still like it just as much. And I have no more to say on the subject as it is boring anyway...

PS - avoid cheap jibes at death metal, It just gives me the impression that you are musically ignorant and predujiced.

For the benefit of guerrilla radio and his musicians make music, they also make songs. Song, noun of sing. To sign - To recite words with a rhythm. May I poin that out again - W-O-R-D-S. Words = Lyrics

Both the music and the lyrics are equally important.

Zapata - but not all songs contain words. Don't get all technical on me, you ever heard of dance music?? Instrumentals??

Anyway, this thread's boring...start something else...

BOZG

I was going to get technical again but I won't. And anyway please do not class dance shit as music.
