that looks realy tasty.... mjam....

a south american freind of a friend once almost got lynched in a pet shop in amsterdam after the following conversation:
she: do you have guinea pigs?
salesman: sure; how much did you want?
she: un kilo.....

BTW, did you know its big nephew the capibara http://www.zoobotanicojerez.com/uploads/pics/Capibara.JPG
is a fish acording the catholic church?

acording to the conquestadores the capibara is almost a beaver and beavers are fish because they have "scales"(sic) on their tail....

and thats why a capibara is a fish wich means you can eat them on lent (friday) wich is handy if you are in the midle of southamerica with no real fish in sight.

damn opurtinistic catholics

They don't look that appetising. Like halfway between burnt Yorkshire puddings and pork scratchings.

Watch Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, he eats Durian, to saliva bird nest, to bat meat, even squid with their black ink. This guy has my respect and I will try those food that consider taboo or unacceptable in western society if I have a chance. If I see a scorpion or grasshopper for digestion, you can bet I will eat them. :D

"Unusual" animals I have eaten:

Shark
Alligator
Squid (Calamari)
Pheasant
Quail's eggs

I would also like to try honeypot ants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honeypot_ant) and Witchetty grubs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witchetty_grub). Entomophagy is underrated.

In your first list, I'd be willing to eat all of them except for squid. So much for unusual, cos I'm the most unadventurous eater out there. But shark'll be like fish, alligator can't be that alien, pheasant'd probs be like duck and quail eggs like smaller hen eggs. These things aren't outlandish: they're just bourgeois. What's next? Swan? Prince NoXion

Pheasant aren't rare. You can shoot them in most of America. Alligator is easy to find in a large part of the south. You can buy squid in any number of places and quail eggs are available throughout Asia.

Shark is a little more rare though some are easily acquired.

You want rare? Try whale.

I don't live in America, and I don't remember seeing any pheasants in the local Tesco's.

Alligator is easy to find in a large part of the south.Reptilians don't seem to feature much in the commercial areas of southern England.

You can buy squid in any number of places and quail eggs are available throughout Asia.Squid doesn't seem that common in northern Europe, and quail's eggs seem to only be available around Christmas time.

Shark is a little more rare though some are easily acquired.I think we're too busy watching all the fish being hoovered up by Spanish trawlers to worry about sharks.

You want rare? Try whale.Endangerlicious!

Who cares about England? There's way too much focus on it. It's the size Pennsylvania yet I have to hear about it all the time.

That's funny, cause all I ever hear about is "America, America, America!"

I care about England because I happen to live there, you myopic provincial.

It's 1% of the world. I don't care if pheasants are rare there. They aren't in the rest of earth. They live in Asia Africa and North America.

Since I don't exactly have stacks of cash to blow on expensive hunting trips halfway across the world, the fact that pheasants are common elsewhere is kind of irrelevant.
