Grunge has the un-glamorous, gritty spirit of punk but is also has more emotion, and just sounds better (in my humble opinion). But punk shows can be fun if you're sloshed.

Why did you bother posting that?? It has no argument or whatever to it, it is purely based on subjective opinion. I don't really care what you think of punk to be honest. I might listen if you present a reasonable argument about punk rock attitude, or the ideals behind the music, but the above is just bullshit. Don't waste forum space with posts like that, please.
BTW - Hardcore punk and grunge both rock. Amen, Refused, The Icarus Line and of course Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana...all grate bands.

umm that's bullshit and if you're basing that statement on the talent of punk musicians than you don't have a goddam clue as to what punk's about. it's not about talent
Taj

punk's just about wanting to share your opinion with others. listen to bands like NoFX they dont sing about how in love they are with a girl but the girl is in love with another guy who's with here friend. no they sing about there meaning of life about there vision of being a human in todays society thats what punk about.
but hey everyone his own musical taste. I really hate techno and house shit. but I'm not going to piss everyone of who does like it <<life and let life>>

I hate techno but I didn't start a thread about how I hate it. Just chill and let people listen to what they want.(Unless its pop, down with pop)

I agree, fuck pop. Its just a bunch of sugar-coated, manufactured bullshit that is played for the sole purpose of making money and becoming a "teen idol". I could tolerate almost all kinds of music except pop and country (I hate rednecks).

yes- fuck pop-i cant stand pop. this nu metal and nu punk wave i cant stand either- people like it to be "cool"- see loooaaadddss of ppl wearing marylin manson and slipknot hoodies (cringe)- for me, good old indie (stone roses, primal scream)soul/funk(sly stone, james brown, parliment), trip hop (massive attack, sneaker pimps)

I think you've missed the point slightly. Although I am also not a fan of nu-metal, Slipknot and Marilyn Manson are most definitely not nu-metal. Onto the point, I agree that it is annoying to see little kids bedecked in Slipknot hoodies, but it's hardly a case of herd conformity, like you suggest. I think it's good that kids have finally have an alternative to god-awful house/garage bullshit they've been raised on for the last 10 years or so. It's sod law that once alternative culture gets any kind of popularity in a certain demographic, the purists and elitists claim that it isn't alternative at all. You listen to the "good ol' indie", but the chances are in the early 90s when Madchester was breaking, people like you were bemoaning the amount of kids who found it necessary to wear stupid hats and big sunglasses (or whatever it is Madchester kids wore). Same with grunge, punk, Britpop, disco, heavy metal, glam, rock 'n' roll and any popular musical phase to emerge in the last 50 years or so.

sorry- i did miss a point- it annoys me all these NEW people who change to like metal, punk etc. i know there are many people who liked it before- and thats fine by me- sorry if i offended. btw, im only 15 so i couldnt beamoan those kids wearing hats and sunglasses (lol- images of kids wearing massive sunglasses and fisherman/bucket hats)- but im sure i wouldif i was around- i hate crazes

Ok fair enough, sorry I assumed you were older, as I have become so used to defending my tastes against people ten years my senior. Still, I don't think many people have changed their musical taste to nu-metal become popular, I think that's more a symptom of the common alternative, GARAGE!!!! ARGGHHH!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!

I say fuck music... becouse 99.9% of all artists kicks on the big cash there is to earn in the music industry but still there is that 0.1% of artists that makes music for fun/fans/drugs/beer they are good so don't fuck music

I think punk music is a real manifest of the hard left...
For exemple, Marilyn Manson is against fascist ones, God, capitalism and such ideas totally...He says about JesusChrist like an old thing that must be destroyed to make The Revolution...
Really he has got no peaceful messenges, but those means a hard protest against system, it is the aggressive face of the left, tired ´cause it does not win...
However, I admit that some of the punk groups are so aggressive that have become fascist...
I don't think Marilyn Manson is punk but I don't know what you see as punk I'm dumb!! but I know what punk is...

The Argentinian band Comando Suicida became fascist. They went from being a Sex Pistols-like band to hatecore like Skrewdriver.
However, being very agressive dosent mean being fascist. Most hardcore and oi bands are completely against racism. Take Madball (Gods of hardcore) for example. They are as agressive as it gets and they are still anything but racists. They all listen to hip-hop.

I hate dance music.
I hate that sort of shit which people are supposed to dance to which has no obvious dancyness, you know, the modern stuff they insist on playing in clubs and splurting down the radio saying it's dance music.
Older dance music is much better though, when I go to parties with Discos the DJ often plays the new shit first then the old stuff and everyone dances then.
I agree with moskitto Dance/House/techno... it all sucks really bad those artist make music just for money thats all it's a shame

Ok, I don't care. LINKIN PARK, SLIPKNOT, CRAZYTOWN AND MARILYN MANSON ARE NOT PUNK!!!!!!
Linkin Park - nu-pop-rap-metal
Crazy Town - nu-pop-rap-reggae-rock
Slipknot - nu-death-metal
Marilyn Manson - goth-industrial-rock/metal
NOT PUNK!!!
Ok, Manson and Slipknot may have punk rock attitudes, but so do Daphne and fucking Celeste (Americans may not have heard of them, they hit bigtime in the UK about two years ago and "played" at Reading on the same stage and day as Slipknot and RATM...fortunately, they got bottled offstage)!!! So be quiet. By your definition, any band that wears chains or bondage is punk?? So are Nine Inch Nails punk?? Please, don't embarass yourself. you've actually got me very angry. You have a right to your opinion (if you know how to express it properly), but to call them punk...please, wake up. If you were to tell a fan of punk rock (ie Sex Pistols, The Clash) that Linkin Park was in the genre as his/her beloved 70s idols, s/he would get very angry.
Oh yeah, and Slipknot are posers, but their music's still fucking amazing. Listen to their self-titled mainstream debut album, it is the best metal album released for a long time. They combined death metal with drum 'n' bass and nu-metal very well. Joey is an amazing drummer, Mick an amazing guitarist, Sid an incredible guitarist and Corey's voice is the most powerful for a long time...

You obviously have not much idea. Saying that all dance artists only make music for money is like saying all metal bands sacrifice goats on a Friday. Please, stop the sweeping statements and open your minds!!! There is some seriously excellent dance music out there (if you'd care to look), some underground, some not. The Prodigy, DJ Shadow, Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, they're all excellent bands. Sort it out...

hey, my mind is fully open, but I still don't like dance/techno music. I'm not saying they're in it just for the money, I just don't like it.

I don't hate their music because they make money, I hate their music because it's so shit and they play it everywhere as "Vibe" and play it at discos when it's just so shit, for example, ressurection by that russian group is like.
de-dededede-dededededededededededede-de-de
Yeah, how the hell is someone supposed to dance to that? And if you want to listen to it for pleasure what's the point because there's no words and it incurres no emotion? So they have this radio program that talks about Ibiza and "Vibe Nation" where they play that sort of shit of Friday and Saturday night.

I like some of todays punk and heavy metal... but I tell ya... "Today's music ain't got the same soul"...
Music is best when made between 1965--1985
P.S. any of you punk fans know the 1977 song the line in bold is from?

Couldn't agree more. Commercial dance sucks...all that garage bollox....oh jesus. Believe me, Moskitto, noone hates Ibiza/Ayia Napa more than me. The whole culture is utterly debased and disgusting. I was referring to the slightly more underground/alternative dance, the type that won't get played on MTV daytime, apart from occasionally on MTV2's "2 eclectic" zone every couple of weeks.
The radio show you're referring to is Judge Jules (I think). What a twat. Why does he have to fake that stupid fucking accent??

Munkey Soup - respect to my son (daughter??). I've seen Slipknot twice now, @ Ozzfest UK last may and in London in February. They rock hard, but I thought Iowa was an average album. Slipknot's the best by far...
Moskitto
8th April 2002, 23:37
actually, I was refering to "Vibe Nation Club Countdown with Howard Richie" which is on the commercial radio stations (like our local radio station) but not on BBC.
Our local radio station is good until about 7 o'clock and then they just play the same as all the other radio stations and at weekends it's dance music.

I wasn't into the whole disco scene myself... and when younger I was heavy into KISS and found myself saying "DISCO-SUCKS" without knowing what it ment...
Later... I actually found out that disco doesn't suck... And... me being the #1-get-drunk-dance-till-legs-fall-off guy in my family... I find myself enjoying even the Village People... a group I used to laugh at.
What's more fun than getting drunk... taking your shirt off and shouting "MACHO-MACHO-MAN" at your friends wedding? While jumping around on the dance floor with a bunch of hot sweaty girls...

I actually don't care. Im used to having my music slagged off. Im over the whole stupid "music fanaticism" thing (If you slagged off my music 3 or 4 years ago I would have probably gotten pissed off). I was just curious.
Everyone has different opinions. I personally loathe pop and country.
