I'd like to hear what the Chinese apologists say about this. Regardless of whether or not you think the video was faked, China has closed off Tibet to journalists so really the death toll from the protests could be far higher than the 100 estimated.

This is another example of the brutality of statism.

Just so you know, the video has nothing to do with the recent protests. The video is about this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nangpa_La_shootings

Thanks for the link. However, my point was that we don't really know the scale of brutality Beijing is waging against the Tibetan people. With the absence of foreign journalists, China can violate human rights at will, just like the Gaza operation, initially the world had no idea of the scale of the human rights abuses.

Yes this is quite bad. However china treats all dissents this way, or at least with similar attitude. This has little to do with Tibet in particular. Condemnable action anyway.

that is the revisionist attitude of a so-called "chinese" socialist. The same people who resisted being toppled by Jiang Qing during the post-mao era.
And as for Tibet, better to have it as an autonomous state within China, run by tibetans for the tibetans despite being guided by the chinese.

i think its up to the tibetan to decide how they want to be guided, not to us or the chinese.

Chinese apologists and anti-revionists hurt the movement significantly by not focusing on the world's current worst imperalist-fascist country. I don't understand why China bashing isn't in full swing with revolutionary left movements.

I missed it. I'm an intellectual genius who supports radical fundamentalism because I hold a more progressive view than you do? Explain.

I'm mocking people like Blobkindles who say that China is a victim of imperialism and other deluded statements.

My fault. I'm inept at nuance and left speak. I apologize.

I'm baffled at how idiotic some people here are. Do people seriously think that anti-revisionists defend the current state of China or its market development? The revisionism of Mao has left nothing but a sprawling bourgeois force to maintain the crumbling statism in the Chinese state. 'Socialism with Chinese characteristics' is a total fallacy and the current economic devastation that China is currently feeling is coming due to the fact that they embraced capitalism, thus embracing the recessions that come with it. How is this thread considered flamebait for anti-revisionists? If anything, it will just fill up with the ignorant 'Free Tibet' types.

Your point being?
That China sucks as much as any other capitalist country?
That Tibet should get independence and let another capitalist country abuse the tibetan people?

This news is supposed to justify the "free Tibet" activists and their arguments. This news however does not change the fact that Tibet is economically addicted to China. Independence would only hurt Tibetan workers, and thus autonomy as a part of China is the most benefical option for Tibet, as well as the will of Tibetan majority.

This is amazing. Every time China violates human rights, who gets attacked by the leftists? The 'Free Tibet' Movement, of course!:D

This is amazing. Every time we try to have a rational discussion, the ignorant come out to play instead. No one here is condoning or defending human rights violations, but it's surrealist to promote the fantasy that the Tibetan people are being oppressed to such an extent that should require some form of intervention. The group of Tibetans that demand independence are a tiny minority and they are anti-worker, thus I don't see any reason sympathizing with their movement. Most of them are feudalistic theocrats who support the Dalai Lama and his tyrannical exploitation. No one's saying China is in the right, but this is the price of revisionism and 'market socialism.' Regardless, the working class in Tibet has too much to lose for me to ever support their "independence" under the Dalai Lama.

I know! It does seem a bit funny doesnt it? This is the way of things however, and whereas these actions are condemnable, I will not play into the cause of these "holier than thou"-free Tibetans. Thats the reaction they want with these kinds of news you know...
