hello everybody ....i`ve just joined this comunity ..like i found a home here :)
i don`t know if it was talking before about this amazing guy, Manu Chao but he`s definatly worth to discuss about his music ...his activizm ...what he have to say through his lyrics is an extra important
this is one of my favourites songs from his first album, Clandestino ....
Solo voy con mi pena
sola va mi condena
correr es mi destino
para burlar la ley
Perdido en el corazón
de la grande Babylon
me dicen el clandestino
por no llevar papel
Pa’ una ciudad del norte
yo me fui a trabajar,
mi vida la dejé
entre Ceuta y Gibraltar.
Soy una raya en el mar
fantasma en la ciudad
mi vida va prohibida
dice la autoridad
Solo voy con mi pena
sola va mi condena
correr es mi destino
por no llevar papel
Perdido en el corazón
de la grande Babylon
me dicen el clandestino
yo soy el quiebra ley
Mano Negra clandestina,
Peruano clandestino,
Africano clandestino,
Marijuana ilegal.
Solo voy con mi pena
sola va mi condena
correr es mi destino
para burlar la ley
Perdido en el corazón
de la grande Babylon
me dicen el clandestino
por no llevar papel
Argelino clandestino,
Nigeriano clandestino,
Boliviano clandestino,
Mano Negra ilegal.
hugs to all ......siempre, paz y amor

Hi,
Welcome to the community. Yeah, that is a good song, as are most of his songs from the Clandestino album, which I think is his best ever. Did you by any chance happen to see him at NYC during the summer? I saw him(only for the last encore song though, it was so fucking crowded they wouldn't let us and thousands of other people in). I was outside listening for most of the concert.

What a great man! he´s trying to make this place anti-violent...
Ít´s pretty ironic, because people came with guns in to his show at Columbia......
I wasn´t there, I´m finnish..

Do you know in which language Denia is? I really like this song, although I don't understand it's words.

I haven't looked into this intensively, so I'm not sure if it's right, but I've heard that Denia is in Arabic, and that it means 'poor.' You can definitely make out the word 'Algeria' in the song, so that makes a bit of sense, singing 'poor Algeria'.

Thanks. I am going to listen it carefully now. Actually I think that it doesn't sound very much like Arabic, I do have Arab music at home and the pronounciation etc is different... I thought myself that maybe it's some slavic language, not Russian of course but another. I have to find it out!

Yeah, I originally thought it was Russian too. I JUST looked around on the internet, and most places say that it's in Arabic. Hehehe, we have to remember that it's a Spaniard who grew up in France singing in Arabic, so....

... so his pronounciation can be weird and very wrong! It's extremely difficult to pronounce Arabic without having it as your first language, I guess...
