I think Trent Reznor is brilliant. Especially the first album "Pretty Hate Machine". Hes also done remixes that are the fuckin shit (and I usually hate remixes).

NIN made electronic music palatable for the MTV generation. Aphex Twin is far more talented. :)

What i like about NIN is that you can tell that Trent Reznor takes a lot of influences from a lot of places. You can see where he has taken ideas from David Bowie, and you can see where his Gary Numan influences come into his music. You can see his Depeche Mode influences, and it all goes to make a big mashed noise that his music has become. Im not a *massive* fan of NIN, i must be honest, a lot of other electronic music is far better (VNV Nation) but NIN are good for their own talent. Its the most alternative stuff MTV is playing today, and that relates to what Trent has made himself into.
Still, id rather have Trent Reznor being good than Papa Roach telling me about their angsty little lives on my TV. :)

NIN's biggest influence is Ministry.

Trent's biggest influences are Ministry, Big Black and skinny puppy....and yes, NIN have worked with Aphex Twin, so Aphex Twin have got a lot of influence from them too. Everone is more or less influenced by someone.

Aphex Twin doesn't play industrial-rock at all, he is more into the techno-genre. AND, NIN was formed BEFORE Aphex Twin was. ;)

Anyway, does that mean that NIN is actually ripping everything from Aphex Twins' work? No! Not at all! Because everyone has influences, Aphex Twin too (Brian Eno, Philip Glass, Tod Dockstader. The only thing I find similar between NIN's and Aphex Twins' music is that both play electronic music, nothing else. NIN was the first to mix electronic music and hard-rock (Industrial) and make it melodic at the same time.

Has anyone seen any Aphex Twin music videos directed by Chris Cunningham, namesly "Window Licker" and "Come to Daddy". They are two of the best music videos I have seen.
I haven't heard any NIN so I can't offer an opinion.

Ive never heard anything by Aphex Twin but Ive heard of them. As far as Ive heard of 80's electronica are goth/industrial/new wave groups such as Trio, Ace of Bass, Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy, Ministry, Art of Noise and techno such as L.A. Style (remember "James Brown is dead" ).

We never said it didnt. All i was saying is that thousands of gothed up Marilyn Manson teenies love NIN because he made electronic music palatable for them, but if you mention Aphex Twin to them then most of them turn their noses up at it.
Thats all i was noting.
Plus, NIN have many influences to name, and thats one of the good things about Trent, he doesnt just have one idea about music.

I'm 15, I wear a lot of black, but I got into NIN before Manson, and personally think that NIN are thousands of times better. Downward Spiral v Antichrist?? No contest...The Fragile v Holy Wood?? Please...Mechanical Animals is genius, but Manson's a bit off-target with other stuff. I saw live @ Reading last year and he was good, but nothing more. System of a Down over-shadowed him four hours earlier.
The vid for Aphex Twin's Windowlicker is very good...it has some deep undertones. I think it's attacking the whole gangsta rap/Hollywood culture, where people get to the top through a combination of *****iness, skimpy clothing and looks (in that order), but once they get there, they become even worse and just celebrate each other's success and generally become very ugly. Or maybe I've totally missed the point, you tell me. Come to Daddy's just weird though, I couldn't work out that video...
