Music and Social Consiousness

Today, my friend, his girlfriend and several of my other friends were walking to his car after school.
Someone pushes my friend from behind, he turns around to see who it was, and somone else punches him int the head, twice, knocking over his girlfriend somehow in the process.
They went to the police, and i believe there will be charges...
This was a completely unprevoked attack.
I believe it was also planned, since when my friend went to move his car the period before the attack, the guy that hit him was waiting beside it.
My friend is gothic. He is one of the most open minded people I know, he is a completely normal person. He keeps to himself, but still gets pushed around in the halls by a minority of people.
He listens to a lot of political music, like RATM Marilyn Manson (well...this is anti religion i guess) system of a down, soulfly, propaghandi and well...much much more...
most of my other friends listen to similar music, are equally open minded, and quite left. (although not as active about it as me)
It seems to me, the people who did this, are very closed minded and listen to a lot of popular, mtv rap crap (not calling all rap crap...but like dmx and shit...fuck it)
other people who have pushed me and some of my friends around in the past listen to the same kind of music...it seems to me, i have never been pushed around by a metalhead or anyone that listens to political music....i guess i just kind of had to get this out of my system...i am pretty pissed...but comment if you want...

AAHH they joys of high school. These are the worst years for divisions between , race, opinion, class etc.

I don't know if charges are the way to go myself- but thats just me-Your friend doesn't want to be the nark kid who calls the cops or his lot may get worse.

My last year in High school was an endless barrage of racial tension and violence. Not so much for my skin colour as to what music etc. the other kids listened to. But there was definately a white/black division that goes with that.
It was truely appaulling the way that shit hole school was run, it's almost as if they wanted everyone to be divided. Just thinking about it makes me sick.

I'd just ride it out see how things pan out maybe get friendly with a few of these guy's peers and you may find things work out. One of my friends at high school got beaten up by a group of guy's and after they found out who he knew the leader of the group appologised and they became very good friends.

Conscious people usually listen to conscious music. That is what seperates us from them, we're aware... and they... are in a nebulous state of mind.

Why shouldn't he have reported the attack? Must be a male macho thing... He doesn't owe this guy anything, and he has every right to report the attack. People who allow these attacks to go unheard of, indirectly, are part of the problem. We should never send out the message that attacking someone who may not reciprocate is "okay," what would you suggest? Reporting this in school may be another option but an attack is an attack.

Well my suggestion to not report it is I suppose a code of how things are done in my community. Seriously I say kick the *****es ass and be done with it. If he can't kick his/their ass meet some folks who can and will, perhaps and old friend or common enemy.

Calling in the cops is not a good idea for me, they're not my friends and don't support my ideas. It's worse than telling the teachers, but that's just me.
If he's was beaten to a bloody pulp and ended up in hospital sure, but a bit of a dust up isn't worth the drama.

Well getting the police after this guy I think is a pretty good idea, since he is over 18 this will go on his criminal record and all that, and even though we all really would enjoy kicking the shit out of him no one wants to jepordize our own futures by indulging in revenge.
What I hate to think is how there are SO many ignorant people in my school, and these people will become voting citizens and they will raise children...who will be equally as ignorant
when I tell some people how all their brand name clothes are made they seem almost PROUD in telling me that they don't care about "a bunch of ethiopians"

fight fire with fire. Brake his head and it will send a message: dont fuck with me. If someone atacks u intelectualy u should be prepared to fight back, its the same with emotional atacks and with physical ones. Give back what u get double fold.

I used to be ...... weird. I was never a goth, i was more of a Manic Street Preacher fan, if you have never seen one i cant explain it to you. :)

I nearly got beaten up a few times, the worst one being outside a McDonalds (my g/f's choice) and it is quite obvious during these times what kind of pricks are actually taking part in this human race of ours.

As for the debate about getting the police involved, i say do it. If a burglar steals your car you'd call the police, and if a thug hits you around the head you also call the police.
Fuck this code of conduct bollucks. You question America for taking revenge on Afghanistan and then, as soon as you see the report of violence, you say fuck the niceities and take violent revenge ?

If i was in that situation, id report it to the police and then if they guy did anything again, then id resort to violence for my own defence.

I'm not sure how it is for goths, but if anyone tried to fuck with me for being punk, I'd introduce a steel toe to their face (or nuts). I guess that the fact that the jocks like my mohawk is double edged sword.

Gothism is an extremely feminine sub-culture wherehas punk is quite violent. Punk is angry music and goth is quite introverted and depressed.

Either way, i never really enjoyed being a cliche that much anyway. ;)
