Do Telecasters make anyone else ejaculate? I was talking to a mate who hates them. He said they're ugly, and I returned that not only was he talking anus, but their sound is intense. I'd had a go on one. It was luck that there was a lefty in a shop in Newport - most times the lefty selection is Stagg, Vintage, etc. But I digress. The feel of playing this thing was like a bj off an angel. More recently, I saw a blood-red one with a thin layer of varnish and a black scratch plate in Bristol. The man at the counter said a lefty'd cost about £800, so if there are 800 people on the forum who want to send me a pound, I'd be grateful. So yea let's all appraise the Tele!

I personally like the shape much better than the Strat. Nice sound and 800 nice price.

yes. I have always liked it way better than the strat, for as long as I have known the difference.

Meh, sometimes a strat can make me cum pretty hard too:

By the way, I am downright fucking obsessed with the guitar tone used for the solo at 3:05 in this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmz7eZ2tXWQ#). Whatever it is, I think it's what Mick Jones uses on London Calling: For example (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwzMuuGOsVI), and here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mN5htcZfRJU&feature=related), and here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA8LWKiOTGI&NR=1). What is being played? (I think it's a Gibson because all the pictures I've seen of Mick Jones and Steve Van Zandt playing live have had them holding Gibsons).

Mick almost exclusively used Gibson Les Pauls. He said the one he used on London Calling was a white hollow body. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/stay-free-the-gibson-interview/

I've only had Gibsons too. had a blonde-wood with gold hardware (aka Blonde Beauty) Les Paul standard (my Jimmy Page phase.) nice sound, very heavy guitar. too beautiful to touch and didn't get much play. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/document?base_pid=513808&cpd=0OEY&doc_id=99371&index=0

And had a vintage '62 Gibson SG Special with whammy bar-- didn't like at all. nice and light, but very thin and tin sounding. looked identical to photo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibson_SG

Now I just have an acoustic that I haven't picked up in awhile.

I like the Tele better because no other guitar can get the twangy gain that you need to play some serious ska.

I used to hate them, especially as a younger teenager, and then as I moved through different styles they grew on me.

American Tele is still way over priced in my opinion though, as is any guitar carrying fender or gibson branding. I will see if I can find a link to comparable, but cheaper versions...I haven't had this computer long so I haven't got bookmarkls sorted but will hopefully find it to post later.

That said, for re-sale value you are wasting your time with most smaller makes.

What amp you wanting to run it through?

I don't mind telecasters. Though I prefer more bassy guitars (so to speak) like hollowbody epiphones.

yeah im with sam. It ould use a slightly warmer sound.

Perhaps, I wouldn't use a telecaster for anything else besides ska/punk, or perhaps jazz and blues. If I desired a more warm sound, I would go with a semi-hollow model, or a Les Paul.

Note that the telecaster in the video has standard pickups on it. I've seen some custom teles with some pretty interesting pickups and it gave the guitar a much wider range.

I don't think they're particularly twangy. I'd call them chunky. Can you think of a positive adjective meaning wobbly? I spose coiled. You'll all hate me for this, but this is why after the revolution, all guitars will be teles, freely distributed among the proletariat:

Never really liked Fenders too much, to be honest. To thin sounding for my taste.

I prefer the Stratocaster, but the Telecaster is cool too and it came out first.:)

I love Teles. I don't play guitar, but if I did, I'd get a Tele.
