As an Indonesian citizen & student, we Indonesians knew that September 30-October 1 in 1965 probably could become the darkest days in the Indonesian political history, in which 6 Army top officers were murdered at the early morning on October 1. These attempted murder cases then pioneered the downfall of the 21-year old Soekarno's reign, thus paved the way of Soeharto's "New Order" reign, a despotic military regime for the next 32 years (1966-1998).

We knew that since the "coup", Soeharto was suddenly became a "new shining star". During 1965-1966 & during his regime, everybody which was suspected as Communists (in Indonesia, the common label is "PKI" (Partai Komunis Indonesia (Indonesian Communist Party)) were severely suppressed, incl. their family/relatives.

For more than 30 years, the military regime blamed PKI as the main suspect of the coup, thus made this version as the "legal version" in Indonesia. Any contradictions or critics about this thing in Indonesia (at the time) shall be labelled as "pro-Commies" shall be "legal to be suppressed by the govt". Since March 12, 1966, even to this date, anything about Communism, Marxism-Leninism were still banned in Indonesia, which began from the "Supersemar" (Surat Perintah Sebelas Maret (Letter of Command on March 12), then the Tap MPRS in 1967 (Ketetapan Majelis Permusyawarahan Rakyat Sementara (Decision of Temporary Congress)).

We knew that the coup has sparked the massacre of thousands, even millions of people, even lots of then were innocent civilians which were labelled as "commies". Even until now, the discrimination towards the "suspected commies" still occurs, although it has been declined since post-Soeharto's reign. even many critical intellectuals, neither Indonesian or foreigners stated that the New Orders' version of "G30S" is deceitful. Even there are some thesis that stated that Soeharto is the main "evil" from this coup. Do you guyz have any other opinions?

I guess that out of convenience, the Indonesian government is trying to say that the G30 was "neither black or white". In the foreign world, most know that Soeharto was one of the most bloody dictators of the 20th century, and most don't really care so much about it, because Indonesia is a third world country and the general view amongst westerners is that third world countries export bananas, has famine and coup generals and nothing will ever improve that.

That's not my view of course. I guess the general view upon G30 is something like this depending on what country we are talking about.

Indonesia: G30 was the result of conflicts within the state and establishment, and no one was really good or bad.

The west: Indonesia is a third world country, everyone is bad!

Leftists: CIA engineered a coup on Soekarno to prevent him from aligning closer to China and take a too independent position.

CIA engineered a coup on Soekarno to prevent him from aligning closer to China and take a too independent position.

this, the coup was in all likelyhood a false flag aimed at installing souharto as an imperialist anti-communist puppet.

but enlike serpent claims this belive is not only held by leftists but was a established part of the history curiculum when i was a kid growing up in the netherlands (but the again there was offcourse a considerbal intrest in indonesia in the netherlands because of the ex-colonial status, the indepepences war and the large amount of dutch citiizens with an indonesian or molukan background

Soeharto railed against Dutch imperialism, but cooperated with it behind the scenes. When he died, the Dutch foreign minister only had praise for him: "During his 30 years in power, Indonesia was relatively stable and the economy grew, especially in the 1980s." And: "The fact that Soeharto stepped down and allowed for the election of his successor, proves that Indonesia is a democratic country where the citizens have the last word."

Not directly related to 30 September itself, but an interesting and damning statement.
