what kind of technologic advancement a socialist/communist society should focus on?
Personally, i think we should focus on creating a more compact way to store energy and doing extensive research to explore and exploit more extensively what out there in the space.

Space exploration would have to take a back seat in my opinion, at least initially given the cost and the benifit that could immediately be enjoyed on earth if this was pumped into more immediate projects.
I suppose the first area of development (depending upon where we are economically by this time) should be ensuring a continuing surplus. Assuming that distribution will take a while to sort out, and will be something subject to constant improvement and revising, the surplus of things necessary for our subsistence will have to be guaranteed.
I would also claim that sustainable energy should be a medium term (or perhaps even short term) goal, depending upon when this is.
To be honest, beyond this I think the requirements of the situation will be determined by the situation. I think as long as the resources we have are distributed well, and are in enough abundance to allow for problems, that we will be in a position to focus on improvement of nearly all areas of life to a much greater extent.

i think that the if we all do stuff together, technologies will evolve way faster. seriously, if someone could come up with a compact reusable energy storage unit that would hold a lot of power, life would be easier for much of peoples in that world.
combined with solar power and wind power, this could be the solution for many third world countries in need for extensive source of power.

electric cars would be nice and then working on diseases

i recently heard some scientist succesfully tested nano technology on mouses to cure cancer, and it work, human testing beging in a year or two.
can you imagine that? cancer can be cured without poisoning your whole body after all!

that is nice, now we just gotta find out a way to rid of HIV/AIDS

i believe that nano technology will eventually be able to do the same too.
seriously, it was so simple, take sterm cell and learn then how to fight x disease/cancer.
of course we are not there yet, but i think we are on the way of mnaking something nice out of it. of course if it would be really nice if there was not a huuge farmateutical company developping it but well.

Electric cars are only useful if we have a decent source of electricity. Once we have this, sure, why not.
Medical advances are no doubt very important, but in curing diseases we will always open the door for new ones. That said, I think HIV, AIDS and cancer are all excellent projects to tackle. I just wish we did not have the pharmecutical industry injury as it stands being involved so much. When we develop cures in terms of the positive effects rather than the profitability for shareholders we will have come a long way.

what about military technologies?
we could focus on more defensive weapons rather than spending useless ressources on incredibly insane offensive weapons.
non-lethal energy weapons would be great. but of course, it would not be a priority.

nice article, i cant believe it could be that easy to do with existing tech

personally I don't think country's like America really need to work on there military tech, they spend enough on it as it is

Economically and enviromentally sustainable energy sources. For the same obvious reasons.

The current situation calls for sustainable energy to be prioritised without a doubt.

Let different ideas for energy effiency compete with eachother and the resources will go the one that serves people the best.

Space colonisation
In that order.

.
Any and all technologies whose purpose is to improve and or make our lives easier rather than end them.
Other than that we do not need to be more specific on what technologies to focus on.

Space exploration would have to take a back seat in my opinion, .
Why? Space exploration is necessary to the preservation of the human species. If any technology ought to take a back seat, it is weaponry.

I think as it stands right now, we should focus on improving the existing technologies. We have Internet, now lets get all the information on it to be correct, and free. Information wants to be free. Also, destroying all intellectual property rights would be a great improvement. Once we can have complete access to information We will progress as a society at much greater exponential rates. Microsoft corporation has done everything in its power (and it has a lot of it) to keep hold of it's "property". We comrades must work together to stop that. We must work together to continue creating more open source software, to promote the use of open source, and to educate others on how to acquire and use it. That is step one. After the information is freed, we can move on to many other technological advances. The point i'm trying to make is there are big fat corporations in the way of the technologies we need to improve the quality of life for humanity. Pharmaceutical companies don't want to find a cure for cancer. They need people to continue getting sick so they can continue making money. Pure b.s. in my mind. they also dont want the cure for H.I.V./A.I.D.S to leak out. Once people aren't sick anymore, they don't make any money. Also, b.s. The wealthy are allowed to stay healthy, the poor and middle classes are made to suffer. In order to put an end to that form of exploitation we need to first make that information known. Make the people class conscious. Then let them have at the information. Revolution will soon follow. And utopia soon after.

yea, that what i was saying somehow, allocate less ressources on weaponry, but still, making progress in defensive armement. it would cost far less to develop defensive armement.

So you are suggesting that we explore the depths of space without weapons?
God to assume they'll be as kind-hearted as we are. Don't say I didn't warn you.

For the forseeable future i'd just be happy to see the solar system colonised never mind deep space.
I never said we should give up weapons per se, just that they shouldn't be so high up our 'to do' list.
