In Havana, the Manic Street Preachers (or rather just the lead singer and his guitar) played Baby Elian acoustically. It sounded great.
I'm a fan of acoustic guitar music also, but unfortunately most people like going for the loud electric sound.

Billy Bragg's the only one I know of, and he's pretty cool.

Leon Rosselson is a great, not brilliantly well known, left wing acoustic guitarist. All his songs are acoustic and he is one of my favourite songwriters. His music is folky.
I play both electric and accoustic guitar. I am currenlty looking for a better electric. Might get a japanese stratocaster or epi les paul standard.

Bob Dylan is great.
Kamo,
I strongly advise you to go to
http://www.uvm.edu/~ksherloc/dylan/
It has the lyrics and chords to practically every dylan song.

A good thing about Bob Dylan is if you're not too flash at singing it doesn't matter cos he isn't either.
You could write your own songs too.
Then you can sing about whatever you like.
I've got a crappy Ibanez which weighs a freakin ton and has got shit pickups, I really should trade up, I'd like a les paul too. I had an SG copy a few years ago but trashed it when I was drunk oops.
Also I've got an acoustic that belonged to my grandfather. It's the one I learned to play on so is my fav. I had a 12 string but hardly played it so sold it a while back.

Bob Marley, came top in a poll of protest and rebel song writers, a lot of his stuff is on the acoustic, but much of it has a a religious theme, so maybe you wouldn't like it.

Bob Dylan is the shit! I am a huge Bob fan...
anyways, Utah Phillips is really good, he's not a commie persay, but he's definatley left. I saw him last summer at the Vancouver Folk Festival. Does anyone know where I can find chords for the Preacher and the Slave (Pie in the Sky)? I really want to play it.

THE FUGS!
They're brilliant, but good luck getting your "tottie" if you go around singing Boobs-a-Lot or Coca-Cola Douche.
Of course, there's always Bob Dylan. But everyone sings his stuff, and it's getting really annoying.

just about all leftist bands have accoustic versions of their songs. check for the "unplugged" series of concerts by MTV or much music or whatever. I guess it depends on what you think it takes for a band to be considered socialist. if you mean socialist in a sense that a band works non-profit, I have no idea.
