I know it's been a while since anyone brought up NSPD-51. Now that there is a nice (neo)liberal president in office who is working for "change" and bring us "hope" and all that -- we can calmly sit back and forget about all of those National Security directives that Bush passed while he was in office, which are still in effect ...

But I was just reminiscing, looking at government documents for old times sake ... and then I came across this:

"any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions."

If you remember, those are how NSPD-51 defines a "catastrophic emergency" which enables the President to dissolve congress, nationalize critical industries, and impose martial law indefinitely ...

What's so interesting about that? Here's what caught my eye:

"any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of ... disruption severely affecting ... the U.S. ... economy"

Well -- it's good to know that Mr. Obama is such a caring, progressive guy and would never actually do this, even though he technically has the authority to at this point.

I think we should all write him thank you letters for not abusing his power.

after all, it was his law to abuse.
And now it's Barack Obama's law, because nobody has taken the order out of effect.
