BAGHDAD—After 19 months of struggle in Iraq, U.S. military officials conceded a loss to Iraqi insurgents Monday, but said America can be proud of finishing "a very strong second."

"We went out there, gave it our all, and fought a really good fight," said Gen. George W. Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq. "America's got nothing to be ashamed of. We outperformed Great Britain, Poland, and a lot of the other top-notch nations, but Iraq just wouldn't stay down for the count. It may have come down to them simply wanting it more."

The only thing America has conceded is that the state which remains in Iraq may have some un-democratic qualities. As in, artillery fire will always be considered an option to any sort of internal problems.

Oh for fuck's sake. The only one that isn't obviously ridiculing right-wing positions is the first one.

It's most stark with the last cartoon. "Our precious little girls" is not something a serious rightwing cartoonist would use as a motif. The whole thing is obviously designed to send up right wing political cartoons. Not only that but the onion has done other send ups of homophobic panic (http://www.theonion.com/content/node/28970).

Having browsed their other cartoons I'm going to evoke Poe's Law (http://rationalwiki.com/wiki/Poe%27s_Law) (although it usually applies to fundamentalist christians, I think it works just as well for ranting right-wingers).

Oh yeah and as a final nail in the coffin of your theory that the Onion is right wing (as opposed to left-leaning or essentially apolitical) you could just read the fucking OP.
