i need info about the surface thing on which you have something like a pen but what you 'draw' on that surface is 'drawn' on your computer screen..

what's it called, and what's the cost?

I'm guessing you mean a graphics tablet?

I think this should help you find out a bit more about them http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/aboutgraphics/a/graphicstablets.htm

Those things are annoying. I had to use one at the driver's lisence place so they could get my signature. The pen kept slipping so it took me like three tries.

It depends..There are great ones, but they are really expensive. Its basically the usual standard capitalist situation, "what you pay you get" which means as usual we will have to settle on scrappy versions.:p

Just get a scanner.

Those tablet pens look horribly impractical.

Graphics tablets are great, I don't use one as its not really necessary for the type of gfx I do... all the same, I've got friends who are more in to illustrations than me and it's definitely a plus

you can get B brand tablets very cheap now a days around 20 euro's (25 $?).. A reasonalbe A brand tablets would cost around 80 euro's. For the professional stuff your budget is well in the hunderds.. especially graphic tablet-screen hybrid's.. but they're fucking worth it!

You want to be dealing with the A4 ones, which is where it gets pricey as well
