Never been a fan of Ska, i've heard some covers of Kraftwerk tracks done in 2-2 and quite frankly it's an affront to everything that is good...

Big time Ska fan. I am a DJ and play Reggae, Rocksteady, Ska, Dub, Dancehall etc etc at a club on Thursday and Saturday nites in my town.

I saw The Specials play last year, not the original line up though.

I like it but not as much as earlier ska and reggae, esp dub.
Trojan Records mainly.

Picky... Just wondered if you like Kraftwerk, do you know Neu? Lesser known but eaqualy good I think.

I like ska, perfer dub.

The even better than Neu! and Kraftwerk put together is Can, although they are both lovely.

Yup I like Can too. Saw then do an amazing live set of Tago Mago.

Speaking of UK/white reggae, I think The Clash got pretty close to an authentic feel.

Yeah I know of them and I like them but I wouldn't say they are as good, nothing can beat Radioactivity by Kraftwerk such a good album. Saying that any band that have influenced Joy Division and Bowie have got to be good.

Sounds like their first two albums but even more bleak, just the way it should be... :D

Potato 5. Their 1st album with Floyd Lloyd & Laurel Aitken is easily the best ska album from the 80s.

Other ska bands/artists I enjoyed during the 80s apart from those already mentioned are -

The Deltones
The Loafers
The Hotknives
The Restrictors
Arthur Kay

But the 60s ska stuff is the best. I'm also a big fan of Skinhead Reggae & Rocksteady. My favourite ska band around today are Pama International whose line up includes ex-Loafers Finny & Sean and ex-Specials rhythm guitarist Lynval Golding.

While I like The Selecter I'm not keen on that cover. Far better is The Special AKA version.

This 2 Tone song seems more relevant today than it ever did. The person who posted it though made the mistake of saying it's by The Specials when it's The Special AKA.

The Dead 60s had a few decent ska songs. Loved their debut single 'You're Not The Law' with it's ska/reggae/dub sound.

Some of their other stuff was just a rip off like this single which nicks the bass line from 'One Step Beyond'.
