And everything that I saw to begin with supported that idea. They had all the "stars" patting each other on the back for producing poor quality music and making huge amounts of money in the process.
But then the Gorillaz won best dance album and the lead singer Damon Albaughn (formerly of Blur) accecpted the award his speech was brilliant.
First off he had a CND t-shirt on which the cameras desperately tried to avoid when he opened his shirt to show it but.
DA: Fuck the music, it counts for nothing.
Use your voice people tell them that you don't want one of the poorest countries in the world to have the hell blown out of it. There are more important things than music so use your voice to say so.
Peace.
He did this speech in English intermingled with German and he got a brilliant response, it was so funny because in the corner of the screen you could see the producer person going mad trying to get the cameras to focus on the crowd or something.
The rest of the show was pretty crap but im glad that there are some celebrities with a heart that will use their voice to encourage others.
Peace, end the war!

And on a non-political point, Kylie Minogue dancing around in very little clothing can`t be a bad thing.

Markxs: First off I too think that MTV is a load of shit, it is a chance for corporate scum to pat each other on the back and congratulate themselves on stealing hard earned cash from people.
But we all live in a capitalist society, there is no way of avoiding in it, to live any other way is inpractical at the present time until the revolution. But as long as with every thought we take both every action we make we think of the consequences and how it will affect our socialist comrades then we can do it. As we live in a capitalist society we may as well exploit it, as long as we keep the ultimate goal in mind. If this action ranges from stealing from the coporations to fund ourselves to looking at a bit of skin then so be it.
But as long as we don't buy into what they want and buy the records then we have succeeded and we have shown our determination and we will over come.
This is by no means directed solely at you, it is to everyone, but we shall overcome.

Ignore the fact that MTV is a capitalist machine - if you like the music MTV promotes then you lack originality. My sister likes music because MTV tells her to like it. I like music because my ears and my heart tell me to like it.

That's very true Zippy, if you don't feel that tingling on your spine when a song comes on that you love then you are listening to it for the wrong reasons. Music is a chance for individuality, expression and fun but people are trying to control how we think even done to the most basic of the things.
Zippy what kind of music do you like?

Markxs, I hope you are not suggesting that i am going to buy a Kylie album. That is out of order.
However I agree that MTV is crap.

Ive had the tingling of the spine twice, both of which have been for music for a funeral or sombre gathering. One of the them is Barbers's abadgio for strings (the theme for Platoon). The other I don't know the title to but it was the theme for Hamburger Hill.
I heard both of the pieces first and didn't realise until I heard them that they were used as theme tunes for films. But they just do something that I can't explain, it's very strange.

Your saying the Soviet National anthem is one of the single pieces of music that has moved you in your life.
If so you have such a dull taste in music its beyond words.
