A movie made in 1995 in America about a nuclear war threat in post-USSR Russia. Has anybody here seen it and is it worth watching?

I thought everybody had seen this film at least twice? Certainly in Ireland its been a staple of TV schedules for at least a decade
Its a decent flick. There nothing special (or remotely Marxist/revolutionary) about it. Granted, its hard for me to be objective since I've seen the film about 20 times but I remember being impressed by the suspenseful and claustrophobic atmosphere on my first viewing. Note though that the "nuclear war threat in post-USSR Russia" is only incidental to the plot - almost the entire affair takes place on the sub itself. Its no Das Boot or Red October but its still much better than K-19 or U-571
Of course it goes without saying that Simpson Tide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simpson_Tide) was better

No, I have never heard of it before, but Texas is a bit different than Ireland I guess. I have never heard of Red October or Das Boot either, perhaps I will look them up too. In any case, I will be watching Crimson Tide this weekend if time is available.

it was ok but Das boot is great and I also enjoyed K19 the widowmaker [all submarine movies] K19 being set on a soviet sub...

It is not politically relevant, but as it has been stated it does suspense and atmosphere reasonably well.
I would be hard pushed to give it more than 6.5 or 7/10 but I am hard to please.
There are better examples, but this is one of the easiest to watch, especially if you are not in the mood for anything too heavy.

It was enjoyable, but nothing more than that. A 6/10 is adequate.

I watched it many years ago, I remember it being very mediocre.
