50 years ago on Feb. 3 1959 a 4-seat plane crashed in Iowa killing rock and roll pioneers 22-year old Buddy Holly, 17-year old Ritchie Valens (Richard Valenzuela) and 28-year old dj known as The Big Bopper (Jiles Richardson)

Known in rock and roll history as the day the music died....

I think he is referring to Lennon not Lenin as he refers to the Beatles in the next line...

Of course its still a great song if not slightly protracted.

oops. I think you are right! my mind automatically supercedes Lenin over Lennon. Though I do think Lennon wrote some great stuff himself. Thanks for the correction anyhow.
