I expect this may have been discussed here in the past, but does anyone have any pointers to any apraisal of Che's military tactics and performance from people qualified to give one? I am looking for something subjective (as possible) and informed.

No dissrespect to the opinions of fellow members but I suspect most of us don't have the neccissary qualifications to make a valid judgement. Comments from those who have are of course welcome.

unfortunately the ones I came across were written by rightists who wanted to discredit the man and didn't seem sound to me.

I would look for RAND documents (which are serious planning papers) and anything relating to the Green Berets, which were formed in responce to Che's guerrilla wars. something out of those sources may have an appraisal for you to read.

Try the "counter-guerrilla warfare" section of this page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guerrilla_warfare) (for some weird reason it won't let me link you directly to that section).

The CIA/School of Americas probably published plenty of stuff on guerrilla and counter-guerrilla strategy, including possibly a critique of Guevara's book on it. I think I've read that they actually used his book in training their own guerrillas. Try looking into what materials they used to train the Contras.

Thanks for the pointers.

Looks like there is a book waiting to be written.
