This is an old song, but's it's a masterpiece, IMHO.

SOLITARY

from "Praise the Fallen"

[August 97]

Set me aflame and cast me free. Away, you wretched world of tethers.

Through the endless night and day I have never wanted more.

Always thought that I would stand before the faceless name of justice.

Like some law unto myself, like a child of God again.

And if rain brings winds of change let it rain on us forever.

I have no doubt from what I've seen that I have never wanted more.

With this line I'll mark the past as a symbol of beginning.

I have no doubt from what I've seen that I have never wanted more.

In this picture stands a man, far away, alone and distant.

Like a solitary field in some nameless foreign land.

All around the points of light start to dim and cease transmitting.

Shadows fell on futile games and then there was nothing more.

Through the screams of falling steel. By the light of flares and wisdom.

All the doubts I could not face. All this time I wanted more.

With a line I'll mark the past as a symbol of beginning.

To the gods whose names we've lost and the names who gave in vain.

And if rain brings winds of change let it rain on us forever.

I have no doubt from what I've seen that I have never wanted more.

With this line I'll mark the past as a symbol of beginning.

I have no doubt from what I've seen that I have never wanted more.

Sever the line to the guilty past, to the ones who brought us nothing

Spoke of futures brave and proud and brought only hate and war.

Lined the roads with hollow praise. Marked the land with paper statues.

Shadows fell on their futile ways and then there was nothing more.

I ADORE VNV Nation. One of my all time favorite artists, they are! :D And I happen to enjoy electronic music! :D

That member of VNV Nation...was he short and chubby or tall and thin? Well, either way, it's no surprise that he would be loved. They are both very nice. :)

I went through an electro phase a few years ago, that was mainly fueled by Aphex Twin. VNV Nation made me smile, but its hard to get hold of their cd's if you arent on the internet.

That member of VNV Nation...was he short and chubby or tall and thin?I cant remember exactly, he was surrounded by cyber-goths who thought Black PVC and glow sticks are a cool accesory to have. :)

I have ALL the VNV Nation CDs, except for the original Advance/Follow. :b

Black PVC and glowsticks!? Heh...Graver would kind of fit too...eheeeheheh...but it's no surprise he'd be surrounded by someone. It was probably Ronan because Mark would have stood out more as he's much taller. hehee

it might be because they make good music, or it might be because they make even better deeper lyrics, also their album artwork is simple, but nice, i haven't had the pleasure in seeing them live yet though :( no idm or ebm groups come here other than like FLA, Front 242, Delerium or like old school Skinny Puppy, basically just the Canadian IDM exports pay visits here, well one time we had Nivek Ogre, but i'm not too too into nivek.

VNV's original is like impossible to dig up, i've scoured virgin, hmvs and second hand shops all across this town and i have had no luck. maybe metropolis' website might be of help.

Hmmm the original Advance and Follow is almost impossible to find.

Where do you live? I can show you the VNV NA tour dates so far if you want! :)

I feel in love with VNV Nation by listening to "Solitude". Ronan has a beautiful, hypnotic voice, ableit sometimes rather coarse. Heheh

I live in Vancouver, Canada...

I know eh, Ronan's voice just gets you into a trance as you sit there and take in his words, sometimes i have to listen to a song 4/5 times before it hits me what he's lyricizing about. Their music helps inspire when I get into artistic moods, as I can picture my drawings more vividly it seems when i listen to their music.

"There are many others which I will post as soon as everything is confirmed with them." That's what Ronan says. HEhehee...

Same here. Only it's in terms of writing and getting ideas for stories. :D

man, they go Portland, Seattle, Edmonton... !!! Vancouver is right in between those, and Edmonton isn't even half the size of Vancouver, and we have such a bigger scene!!! (See what I mean about always getting skipped) :(

You write too?! I do a fair bit of writing, just didn't say it, because well I hadn't done any writing in about a month and a half :/

What do you like to read/write

Jurhael

Hmmm...I haven't been writing much at the moment, but I write mainly fantasy/science fiction.

Jurhael

On my site. "Writing Pages". Also on my LiveJournals. But some of it isn't quite for everyone, but it should be obvious which ones aren't for the general public. hehehe

Jurhael,

I've a confession to make:

I don't think I've ever heard VNV Nation. Does this make me a horrible person?

vox (where's that damn Tom Waits disc?)
