No joke. The U.S. government actually kidnapped Filipinos to work on the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. First they took over the plane with weapons (sounds familiar?) then they flew them to Baghdad. The Filipino workers actually thought they were going to work on hotels in Dubai, and when they got to Baghdad they were stripped off their passports, ID, etc.

Does anyone know where they are now?

Given that the US continues to have a government approved and funded system of slavery within its borders, this wouldn't particularly surprise me.

bcbm: While it is true that US would not hesitate to use slavery if given the change, I really was more surprised at their political arrogance. Provided ofcourse that the news is correct. Sraightforward uncovered shameless slavery is still considered politically incorrect, even when covered up and excused slavery is allowed.
