How if N. Korea became the next Titoist Yugoslavia at the East?

As we know together, that N. Korea & Yugoslavia, were known as 2 top neutral Communist countries. Both of them had enjoyed a prosperous, wealthy economy until the 1970s when the oil crisis strikes. We could see that Tito represents the more "liberal" & "opened" form of neutral Left, whilst Kim Il-sung tended to be more "closed" & "autocratic".

Although their economic record had enjoyed a long boom, but right now, sadly, it has turned into memoirs. Yugoslavia had ceased to exist, while N. Korea, although still remains exist, but their people still living under a very hurting, yet long misery.

I strongly believe, that it's a quite ideal choice for N. Korea if they open themselves to the World, having good relations with the "west", while still maintaining a collectivist economy (workers' self-management) like Titoist Yugoslavia, & liberate the freedom of expression & travel, N. Korea, I believe, could become a very powerful economic, geopolitics, military, & science & technology power at Asia-Pacific. But, one note, that N. Korea MUST BE VERY CAREFUL OF IMF &/OR WORLD BANK. Reflecting to the case of Yugoslavia, SFRY had collapsed, also because of the IMF/WB trap. In 1980s, the Yugoslavian economy even was forced to be de-collectivized due to the "stuck" of Yugoslavia into IMF/WB's trap. Here we can seen the bastard of neo-individualist-liberalism. That's why, Juche principle in N. Korea should not be abandoned: It must be revised, modernized & implemented seriously into more rational, peace-oriented, & liberal, yet still maintaining collectivism, democracy, humanity & internationalism as the basic principle of the Left. But, of course, N. Korea must dare to topple down the "imperialist-communist" dynasty rule of Kim, stop to "worship" Kim Il-sung, clean-up the bureaucracy from corruption & nepotism, & start to develop a "market-collective" economy through workers' self-management principle & method (like in Titoist Yugoslavia), & assist it by developing the science & technology, in both consumer & capital needs, & also, the human needs. Freedom of travel & expression should be also been eased & guaranteed. This should develop the image of the real Left: social & humanist. Hopefully, N. Korea could also ends their misery of dictatorship & famine, & entered the New Era of Left Modernization.

Unification also became a serious issue about Korean studies. From developing a Libertarian Leftism, hopefully, also, N. Korea could help itself to emancipate with the rest of the developed countries, so it could become a new star, thus easing the way to re-unify with the South as a united Korea. Hopefully, the United Korea could became the new model for the implementation & concepts of Libertarian Left, & help us leftist to promote leftism to the World, to create peace & justice to all human being.

I was very amused by the proverb "I believe in Leftism because I believe & respect Humanism", & that's why I'm called to join the Left: to enforce humanism to every human being.

Yeah, that would be awesome. But you've got to take into account that they are still officially at war with the south, and they would be plagued with infiltrators the moment they open up. But yeah I agree they should open up some.
I guess we'll have to wait and see who takes power after the Dear Leader dies.

What you are describing, is an unwise path for NK to follow, they will fall into the same contradictions that Tito's Yugoslavia found themselves in. North Korea will never attain good relations with 'the west' as long as they practice some type of collectivist economy. If "good relations" with the west means opening themselves up to them, then how the hell is that collectivism when they are allowing foreign investors to exploit workers? If any country is maintaining "good relations" (I think you should define "good relations" more elaborately) that means that said country is conceding to "the west's" demands.



I also strongly believe that this' not impossible for N. Korea, because of their demographics condition: N. Korea has a relatively homogeneous ethnic rather than the Balkan area, so stabilization should be more easy to enforced, yet conflicts could be easier to reduce.
Why do you suggest that conflicts would be "easier to reduce" just because North Korea is ethnically homogeneous? Do you think the war's in Yugoslavia were because of ethnicity alone? I wouldn't say so. I'd say all the ethnic conflict started when nationalistic factions of the government actively worked to split Yugoslavia apart, and to weave the old ethnic hatred back into the masses' minds. There is still much tension between North and South Korea, and I don't think North Korea can just all of the sudden "open themselves up'.

The thing that gets me thinking is under what conditions would we see a unified Korea? In many ways I also dream of the day when NK opens itself up to the rest of the world, but also agree with Cher G that their would be loads of infiltration from the west. Sad truth like mkhab said, is that the west would never accept NK for having anything but a vulger deregulated and open market for companies to exploit, simple as. Though I'm not that fond of NK and believe they give socialism a bad name, I do wonder who is actually in the right, in that particular topic, because are not NK technically getting blackmailed into accepting western capitalism? This then brings in the question of unification as would the west ever see anything but a southen take-over as unification?

Also, not that they're Socialist or Communist now, but exposure to the rest of the world could turn North Korea towards a more Capitalist economy, trying to keep up. Witness China. Socialism/Communism just isn't compatiable in a Capitalist world.

Somehow I couldn't picture North Korea becoming more open. For one they have a personality cult. I do wonder what it will take to get rid of their personality cults. Its just seems to have got to the point where they have admitted defeat, the moment that kim il sung passed away. I have seen documentories where people have pretty much gone to mock the country and i kinda get the impression that the people (of nk) know that they are getting mocked. Surely, some of them are beginning to resent these big gold statues of leaders, that they have been told all their lives to worship, then all of a sudden delivers famine and (dear i say it) inequality after they (the leaders) die. Dont get me wrong either. After being brought up detesting USA, imperialism, and getting taught about the communist outlook on life, mabey some of them are getting a bit mistrustfull of their annoying and difficult elite, and now realise that they are getting taken for a tragic ride. North Korea is beginning to open up to China and Egypt. I'd like to see greater cooperation with south Korea. At this point, capitalism and state-capitalism makes no difference but because of the economic situation in North Korea something is necessary to unleash the productive forces.

They might be able to set up a socialist country if all the multi- national company's don't rush and put there labels all over everything, and they would sadly probbly go for capitalism anyway

Yea, simply because they don't know what real Socialism is supposed to look like. I'm sure if I was Korean I would go for Capitalism too after living under Kim what's his face.(I don't even care about the name. He's a nobody)
