Reconstruction of the Ryugyong Hotel
Background:

DPRK decided to take on a monolithic project of building an enormous hotel in 1987, but during the early 90's construction was halted when communism ended in eastern Europe which in turn, cut off the supply of building materials to the DPRK, the capitalist market, and the ongoing embargo. It was to be the beacon of Pyongyang.

The hotel was left unfinished for 16 years:

Last year, Egypt based Orascom decided to finance the project. It is expected to be finished by 2012 (Kim Il Sung's 100th anniversary).
