I am sorry for not leaving a message. I blasted off to my profile.

I was wondering if any of you are familar with the Imperial Valley. This is where I attended high school, and it was a very important part of Cesar Chavez's life. The IV is on the border of Mexicali, Mexico. Many farm workers were (Braceros), other immigrants, and Mexican-Americans who worked in the fields. I have taught history for a number of years and always take time to utilize his birthday, or Cesar Chavez Day to celebrate what the Unions did to help the Mexicans and Mexican-Americans get the proper treatment.
My big question is what do other rev lefters plan on doing...if anything on this date? It falls on March 31st once again this year.

I'm from ireland and it isn't a big thing here so , nothing . However Ceasar Chavez was an excellent unionist and a fighter for workers rights . So if their is one on near you , people should go .

You could argue this to an extent but his position on this was hardly reactionary . In fact leftists in Europe campaigned against the NICE treaty for the exactly the same reason . He wasn't anti-immigration he was against a race to the bottom .

And this detracts from his overall critical achievements how?

He wasn't anti-immigration he was against a race to the bottom .

His anti-race-to-the-bottom sentiment manifested itself as one against immigrants.

He didn't want immigrants coming it who the bourgeois would use to undercut workers . Leftists fought against this in Europe in basically the same manner .

Its not reactionary .He was an immigrant after all

His narrow mindedness and lack of internationalism, probably connected to his anti-communism, led to organizing a small number of workers in the Southwest at the clear exclusion and expense of the international proletariat.

He attacked Chicano nationalism, he attacked migrant workers, and he attacked violence of the oppressed. There is a reason that Ceasar Chavez is elevated in American society.
