Robberies of the elderly continue despite calls for this activity to cease.
At the end of last year Lagan Valley IRSP highlighted the issues surrounding the upsurge in burglaries of the elderly in West Belfast, specifically in the Poleglass, Twinbrook and Lagmore areas. Concerned about this growing trend we have since met with Help the Aged, and likeminded bodies, in the hope that they could equip us in offering the elderly of our areas better assistance and assurances.
Over the next few months we will be aiming to hold local meetings in each of these areas where we will try and get our older members of the community together to listen to their concerns and furnish them with the information that we have gathered from the bodies that we have met.
Old people have a voice which is too often easily ignored. The IRSP believe that by facilitating such meetings that the voice of the elderly will be heard, loud and clear, once again.
We must help empower our communities to rise off their knees and reclaim the communities that they were once proud of. Where once they could leave their doors open to the world without fear of cowardly prowlers breaching the sanctuary of their homes, rifling their personal belongings and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.
We all must stand up for our most respected, yet vulnerable, members of the community and say enough is enough to the scum who prey on their weaknesses.
We would ask that people who have elderly parents or relations, in the Colin area, to advise them of our intentions and should they express a wish to attend we will be able to provide transport to and from these venues, which have yet to be confirmed. To register their interest you can call us on: 07549 662418 – exact dates and locations will be announced in the coming weeks.
We also take this opportunity again to demand that the perpetrators of these cowardly acts desist immediately as these activities will not be tolerated. And to reiterate to the working class people that the IRSP stand shoulder to shoulder with you.
Should anyone have any concerns about their elderly family members, neighbours or friends in the Colin area please feel free to register these concerns with the IRSP on the same number. ENDS
