I used to live near Crewe in England and there was a bit of a local legend that in the 60's or 70's that Keele University in Stoke on Trent declared independance from the crown by some loophole in the law. Apparantly it was as some kind of protest against the Vietnam War. Anyone know anything more about this?
I heard they stopped paying taxes, set up passport checks and everything and they had to be "invaded" by the British Army. It probably was just a bit of fun, but I would be intrested in hearing more :tt2:
