i mainly listen to hiphop, and make it, its disapointing that the rappers i work with are not more into politics because i think music is a great way to get knowledge out, aside from the hiphop artists listed, i think ras kass is a damn good artist in regards to politics along with non phixion. peace

How can one discuss Political hiphop without including Public Enemy, whom were one of the first, and still by far the best. From their first record, 'Yo! Bum Rush The Show', they created an entirely new genre that stressed education over the often boring, and sensless "gangsta" fables of the time.

Chuck D was, and still is an extremely intelligent man, whom opened many peoples eyes (and created fear in the process) to the injustices, and brutality that existed amongst blacks even after the time of the Civil Rights Movement.

One of the most controversial, and easily the best, Political hiphop group of all time.

In Norway, most hip-hop bands and artists (Uro, Gatas parlament, Jester) are leftist, non-commercial bands. Hip-hop is the best!

biohazard and motorhead have some good political songs.. but they r neither punk nor hip hop.. i'd recommend bio hazard's "american democracy" and motor head's "march or die"... its metal...

hey, is it just me or did u guys forget AMEN? PITCHSHIFTER?

"march or die"... That's a great song Cheif Rebel! I never heard of biohazard, but I was into motorhead back in the day... :)

Hmmm can only find that one and 1916.... I know I have earlier ones.... Anyway... here's March or die.... 1992

The beast behind our eyes is loose,
The day has come, the day has come,
We march to Armageddon, hungry for the war
I see the hated enemy, I see what I was taught to see

And one of us will bend the knee
We understand the law

The blood lust jerks our legs to march,
Fife and drum, fife and drum
Our eyes are fixed and fearless
Searching for the war
Our statesmen deal in blood and lies
100 million stifled cries, 100 million wasted lives
Already gone before

So March or Die, March or Die
The stench of death is in the sky
We never fail to satisfy
We rend with tooth and claw

Sword and shield and jackboot heel
We love to kill, we love to kill
We love to taste our own blood
Squirm in our own gore

Children weep and widows wail,
Our education systems fail,
To hide our guilt we build more jails,
and we shall build still more
Our forests die, the stranglehold
That we put on the earth for gold
Will yet increase ten thousand fold
And no one knows what for

March and die, March and die
Defecate, despoil and lie
Cheat, dissemble, preach & spy
Build your house of straw

Laugh and cry, laugh and cry
Bloody sunset drowns the sky
For earth the heal then we must die
No-one deserves it more

I tell you we are doomed my friends
Our time is come, our time is come
We live within a charnel house
Rotten to the core
We glorify lust, greed & pain
We drown our hope in poison rain
We point the finger, shift the blame
Ambition makes us whores

March or croak, march or croak
All your lives a cosmic joke
Fill your days with piss and smoke
The wolf waits at your door

Burn and dance, burn and dance
Sex, death, torture, false romance
Whoop and howl, you have no chance
Burn & rise no more

i love this part:
"Children weep and widows wail,
Our education systems fail,
To hide our guilt we build more jails,
and we shall build still more ".. i even had it as my signature once...

btw did u listen to their latest one? its decent.. but they're kinda loosing their glow... surely after 25 years of making noise anyone would..

u always say "back in the day" when u refer to heavy music.. what music do u do now?

RedCeltic
7th October 2001, 01:03
I think that's the best part of the song too... and so true in the US. Yea.. and I say " Back in the Day" I suppose because I'm older and have tamed out a bit.. I still love all that stuff, and listen to some of the newer bands out now... I was recently, (only a few months ago) turned on to "Godsmack" and "slipknot" because I was working in this woman's bathroom when her teenage daughter came home and started blasting this stuff... I had to ask her what it was on my way out so I could pick up the cd on my way home... :)

And... no... I didn't hear the latest Motorhead... I'll look into that though... Actually 1916 was the last one I purchased from them and I didn't even realize they where still around...

Anyway... My tastes have mellowed a bit.. .I still like the hard hitting heavy metal and punk rock, but I have broadened my tastes, while in those days that's what I listened to exclusively... and when asked what music I listended to would say, " Heavy Metal Rules! Dissco & Rap Suck!" (except Beastie Boys) And Quite a few people said I should try "Public Enemy"... Nickadermus was the latest to mention them... I suppose I was turned off by the big clocks or something... but never listend to that stuff...

I'm really big into Celtic music right now... well I've always listened to Traditional Irish Folk... now it's more up beat and contemorary.. and I like people like Laura Mckennet, The Chieftens, Altan, Clannad, Wolfstone, Wolftone, Soles, Celtic Thunder, etc...

Anyway... this is everything you ever wanted to know about my musical tastes.. :)... As for Heavy Metal.. I started listening to Kiss when only a boy... I actualy had a Genne Simmons Doll... but played with it and broke it.. I kick myself now... :).... But then it was Iron Maden.. and my hippy uncle John introduced me to Hendrex, zepplin and Black sabbath... Joan Biaz, Ten Years After, Cream, Janes Jopplin... etc... and well... I'm a big time fan of music Just like my uncle John who liked Metalica's " Load" so much he finaly cut off the hair he had down to his belt since 1971 since Metalica cut their hair off.... such an odd guy I know.. ( By the way.. he's growing it back.....)

And personaly I've aways had long hair except for the four years when I was in the Navy... ('92--'96)but I cut it off a year ago... and personaly think I look better.

Oh... by the way.... I remember a group out around in the 80's I liked... I just found a web site on them. They have been around for a very long time.... and always as an undergound group.... " Are You morbid?"

DaNatural, more than half of what mainstream rappers word themselves about is pure crap, no thought, no effort put into their lyrics.

You need to go underground to dig up meaningful lyrics with thought, time and effort put into them. Check out various west coast underground hip hop outfits for not only the few leftwinged groups (4WO), but for the music in general with a positive message and songs that are actually interesting. Check out guys like Fourth World Occupants, Moka Only, LMNO or Swollen Members (theres more but I'm lazy).

one of my favourites...you do know that they are anarchists, right? (since in that other post in theory you seemed to dislike the concept of anarchy)

Freiheit
19th November 2001, 14:16
i like anarchy, but before the human is ready for anarchy, the human will be ready for communism.

Freiheit
19th November 2001, 14:20
anarchy is like the last, almost perfect stadium of communism. a prduction society whithout a government. thats a good idea. but before this community, there must be a socialism, whith a government. with the time this socialism beomes a real communism what is almost like anarchy.

Rob
20th November 2001, 21:05
(revolutionary/ left) Anarchists are just impatient communists anyway. The can't wait for the state to wither away, they just want it to be destroyed. Also, I think refused are socialists, not anarchists. At least their new incarnation the (international) noise conspiracy are.

libereco
20th November 2001, 23:24
well, INC isn't really an incarnation I'd say....isn't the singer (dennis something) the only member both bands share?

also i think at some point we'll need to define anarchism......but not in this thread. (there are others in theory i believe)

since all my knowledge that i gained by reading about it doesn't seem to match with most peoples thoughts on it...for example you say they're not anarchists but socialists.
Well of course they are, they are liberal socialists, or anarchists...isn't that just a different name?

Well, anyway the refused were a great band, and I am at the moment downloading (uhh uhh) an International Noise Conspiracy Album. :)
Even though I think their sound will have to grow on me if anything......it's a little poppy.

Rob

you're probably right, I don't know that much 'bout them.
