Petra de Fenetra: Comando Pollas Head

Pantera: The Badge

we shouldn't put pantera songs in our play list, they're racist, they fly the confederate flag.

El Che de Boca Jrs
3rd August 2001, 00:44
The confederate flag is simply for image because their from the south, their not racist (they toured with Sepultura whose lead singer is black). A lot of their fans are though, unfortunately. It is fucked up that they have stuff with confederate flags though, it makes people think their racist.

El Che de Boca Jrs

"nos quieren detener" - Boikot
"Slave to the wage" - Placebo

A lot of latin american music is worth listening to especially if you can understand the words. Groups like Inti Illimani, Quilapayun and the singer Victor Jara who was murdered by the right wing dictatorship in Chile because of his music.

peace, love and communism.

The Marching Song of the Covert Battalions
Great Leap Forward (I think that's the title)
The Internationale

I may have missed them since the playlist was so long, but "Nada Mas" by Atahualpa Yupanqui, "Fusil Contra Fusil" by Silvio Rodriguez, and "Zamba del Che" by Victor Jara are all good songs about Che that I think would make good additions to the playlist. Also, "Playa Giron" by Silvio Rodriguez, although not explicitly about Che, is a good anti-imperialist song. By the way, does anyone know if Rodriguez got that tune from somewhere else, or if someone else has used it since he made that song? It sounds very familiar to me.

What about a Chrismasy song

Band Aid - Do they know it's Chrismas

Conghaileach
24th December 2001, 08:39
When it comes to Christmas, a friend of mine recently gave me an "alternative" Christmas playlist...
"Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight)" by The Ramones
"Fuck Christmas" by Fear
"Shouldn't Have Given Him a Gun for Christmas" by Wall of Voodoo
"Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues with Kirsty MacColl
"Oi to the World" by No Doubt
"Homo Christmas" by Pansy Division
"All I Want for Christmas" by Timbuk 3
"X'mas Time (It Sure Doesn't Feel Like It)" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
"Christmas in Prison" by John Prine
"Merry Fucking Christmas" by Mister T Experience

And is there any chance of requesting an old REM song or two? A number I suggest would be..
"Fall On Me"
"Flowers Of Guatemala"
"Exhuming McCarthy"
"It's The End Of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"
"Bandwagon"

Manics' tunes worth considering...
"IfWhiteAmericaToldTheTruthForOneDayIt'sWorldWouldF allApart"
"Masses Against The Classes"
"Let Robeson Sing"
"Baby Elian"
"Freedom Of Speech Won't Feed My Children"

I think that "Joe McDonnell" is the greatest Irish rebel song of all time, but others good ones are
"The Sam Song"
"Galtee Mountain Boy"
"Roll Of Honour"
"Armagh Sniper" (which opens with a nice 'Another One Bites The Dust' riff :))

And does the "Internationalé" go by another name?

z80x86

"Fiel a La Vega" is a very good rock band from Puerto Rico. They have a much more obvious political influence in their songs than a band such as "Mana".

Try...

From "A Quien Pueda Interesar"
El Panal
Bla, Bla, Bla

From "Tres"
Breve Anécdota de Heroísmo Floklórico del Fin de Milenio --- This song is nuts.

And, we cannot forget Roy Brown. Also a Puerto Rican and of the far left, his songs have been compared to those of the great Bob Dylan.

From Poeta en San Juan:
Te Venden
Hombre Desnudo

From Poetas Puertorriqueños:
Aires Bucaneros

Thanks for reading.

I really love some of ya'll's (sorry! I'm from Tennessee!) suggestions (Manu Chao is cool) and I love "How I Could Just Kill a Man" (Although I prefer the Spanish version, "No Entiendes la Onda"), and "Chan Chan" and "Guantanamera." Does anyone know of a guy named El Vez? He performs Elvis-esque punky Latin type of stuff. He'd be really good to play on there. He's got a song called "Go, Zapata, Go!" and another called "Cesar Chavez" and other songs that are really good.. He's great.. :)

I Will Deny You
8th January 2002, 01:08
Maybe a little more Dylan or Ochs would be nice, or perhaps some other kind, gentle folk singers who hate The Man in a family-friendly way (as opposed to Ice-T's version of The Man-hating). Some Stevie Wonder-ish politicaly conscious soul is always good--Living Just Enough for the City, You Haven't Done Nothing, etc. Mos Def is one of the few rappers I really like, so anything from him or Blackstar would be good. I always admired Public Enemy, but I could never really get into their music (except for 911 is Off the Hook).

As far as I've seen. They oppose war, and the United States government. They haven't gone far beyond that. I believe they are an Anarchist group. They're not bad, and I don't think they've oppposed communism. They have however, opposed capitalism.

I already mentioned it in GP forum but I'll post it here too. I think that Turkish group GRUP YORUM would be suitable. Anyway, I love to listen to them. Sonic Youth - Teenage riot
The (international) noise conspiracy - airports or capitalism stole my virginity

I think those are most of the ones I can think of that haven't already been suggested.

I've taken some of the suggestions here for my own show that airs live from 3-7am on Sundays here in Calgary. Its on the university radio station and I have so much fun with it. Its great. If anyone is interested and can coordonate with time zones it gets put on the web at www.cjsw.com. The show is Phone your mom you're human. (I'm in a rocky mountain time zone)

Try Repeat; Motorcycle Emptiness ; Baby Elian; Let Robeson Sing; a Design For Life; Royal Correspondent; We are all Bourgeoise now ( a great cover); and many more. 19th June 2002, 13:44
when Eminem first started using the word "fag" on his record it wasnt meant to mean Homosexual exactly. Many rappers before him used the word "fag" such as the beastie boys. Once he found that this caused controversey, he just did it more to sell records.
Put eminem's "squaredance" on. it is about the draft and war on terror and shit.

LOL. Yeah, Propaghandi really aren't fans of ska/reggae. It dosen't have anything to do with their politics though and I don't think they really have anything against Halie. 45 YEARS OF RADIO REBELDE
Life and truth tuned in

Early days

Comandante Ernesto “Ché” Guevara de la Serna founded Radio Rebelde on February 24, 1958 in Altos de Conrado in the Sierra Maestra mountain range, eastern Cuba. One week before in “Pata de la Mesa”, where Che’s headquarters were located, the electricity generator and first radio equipment arrived that, together with a small group of four people, was the beginning of the underground radio station. At Fidel’s request, on May 1, 1958 the station relocated to the La Plata camp; and on November 20 of the same year it came down from the mountains to a place near the village of Estada Palma (known today as Bartolomé Masó); there it remained for 10-15 days until the end of the battle of Guisa. In early December it moved to the Charco Redondo mines; from this location the station broadcast from 7:00 am-3:00 am (some 18 hours daily). On December 31, at the behest of Fidel, Rebelde moved onto Palma Soriano; on January 1, 1959 it went on the air with a speech by the revolutionary leader.

Hey, welcome reggaetrain!

"Oh children
zion train is coming our way
Get on board now
You got a ticket so thank the Lord
Zion train is, zion train is, zion train is, zion train
Soul train is coming our way
Soul train is coming our way"
I have no idea what relevance this has, you just got me started singin it, I guess
I hope you'll stay for a while, comrade.

Aprendimos a quererte
desde la histórica altura
donde el sol de tu bravura
le puso un cerco a la muerte.
Aquí se queda la clara,
la entrañable transparencia,
de tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.

Tu mano gloriosa y fuerte
sobre la historia dispara
cuando todo Santa Clara
se despierta para verte.

Aquí se queda la clara,
la entrañable transparencia,
de tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.

Vienes quemando la brisa
con soles de primavera
para plantar la bandera
con la luz de tu sonrisa.

Aquí se queda la clara,
la entrañable transparencia,
de tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.

Tu amor revolucionario
te conduce a nueva empresa
donde esperan la firmeza
de tu brazo libertario.

Aquí se queda la clara,
la entrañable transparencia,
de tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.

Seguiremos adelante
como junto a ti seguimos
y con Fidel te decimos:
hasta siempre Comandante.

Aquí se queda la clara,
la entrañable transparencia,
de tu querida presencia
Comandante Che Guevara.

Public Enemy's "Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos" is one of the greatest songs ever written.

Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos
Ridenhour - Shocklee - Sadler - Drayton
I got a letter from the government
The other day
I opened and read it
It said they were suckers
They wanted me for their army or whatever
Picture me given' a damn - I said never
Here is a land that never gave a damn
About a brother like me and myself
Because they never did
I wasn't wit' it, but just that very minute...
It occured to me
The suckers had authority
Cold sweatin' as I dwell in my cell
How long has it been?
They got me sittin' in the state pen
I gotta get out - but that thought was thought before
I contemplated a plan on the cell floor
I'm not a fugitive on the run
But a brother like me begun - to be another one
Public enemy servin' time - they drew the line y'all
To criticize me some crime - never the less
They could not understand that I'm a Black man
And I could never be a veteran
On the strength, the situation's unreal
I got a raw deal, so I'm goin' for the steel

They got me rottin' in the time that I'm servin'
Tellin' you what happened the same time they're throwin'
4 of us packed in a cell like slaves - oh well
The same motherfucker got us livin' is his hell
You have to realize - what its a form of slavery
Organized under a swarm of devils
Straight up - word'em up on the level
The reasons are several, most of them federal
Here is my plan anyway and I say
I got gusto, but only some I can trust - yo
Some do a bid from 1 to 10
And I never did, and plus I never been
I'm on a tier where no tears should ever fall
Cell block and locked - I never clock it y'all
'Cause time and time again time
They got me servin' to those and to them
I'm not a citizen
But ever when I catch a C-O
Sleepin' on the job - my plan is on go-ahead
On the strength, I'ma tell you the deal
I got nothin' to lose
'Cause I'm goin' for the steel

You know I caught a C-O
Fallin' asleep on death row
I grabbed his gun - then he did what I said so
And everyman's got served
Along with the time they served
Decency was deserved
To understand my demands
I gave a warnin' - I wanted the governor, y'all
And plus the warden to know
That I was innocent -
Because I'm militant
Posing a threat, you bet it's fuckin' up the government
My plan said I had to get out and break north
Just like with Oliver's neck
I had to get off - my boys had the feds in check
They couldn't do nuthin'
We had a force to instigate a prison riot
This is what it takes for peace
So I just took the piece
Black for Black inside time to cut the leash
Freedom to get out - to the ghetto - no sell out
6 C-Os we got we ought to put their head out
But I'll give 'em a chance, cause I'm civilized
As for the rest of the world, they can't realize
A cell is hell - I'm a rebel so I rebel
Between bars, got me thinkin' like an animal
Got a woman C-O to call me a copter
She tried to get away, and I popped her
Twice, right
Now who wanna get nice?
I had 6 C-Os, now it's 5 to go
And I'm serious - call me delirious
But I'm still a captive
I gotta rap this
Time to break as time grows intense
I got the steel in my right hand
Now I'm lookin' for the fence

I ventured into the courtyard
Followed by 52 brothers
Bruised, battered, and scarred but hard
Goin' out with a bang
Ready to bang out
But power from the sky
And from the tower shots rang out
A high number of dose - yes
And some came close
Figure I trigger my steel
Stand and hold my post
This is what I mean - an anti-nigger machine
If I come out alive and then they won't - come clean
And then I threw up my steel bullets - flew up
Blew up, who shot...
What, who, the bazooka was who
And to my rescue, it was the S1Ws
Secured my getaway, so I just gotaway
The joint broke, from the black smoke
Then they saw it was rougher thatn the average bluffer
'Cause the steel was black, the attitude exact
Now the chase is on tellin' you to c'mon
53 brothers on the run, and we are gone

Mais algumas sugestões pra lista da Radio Rebelde:

Ben Harper - Opression
Dead Fish - Modificar
Dead Fish - Fragmento
Dead Fish - Cidadão Padrão
Dead Fish - Sua Bandeira

Bom, Dead Fish é com certeza a melhor banda do cenario underground brasileiro, com letras de protesto, merece estar na radio.
