BERLIN (http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/02/25/europe/EU-Germany-Holocaust-Denial.php#): A founding member of a left-wing terrorist group turned neo-Nazi was convicted Wednesday in Munich of Holocaust denial and sentenced to six years in prison after a judge accused him of using the courtroom to spread his message of hate.
Horst Mahler — a founder of the Red Army Faction in 1970 — was convicted of incitement for posting videos denying the Holocaust on the Internet and distributing CDs promoting anti-Jewish hatred and violence. Denial of the Nazi Holocaust is a crime in Germany.
Mahler, who initiated the Munich state court case by filing a complaint against himself, was accused by Presiding Judge Martin Rieder as using the courtroom as a stage to promote his "nationalist croaking."
Mahler used his right to make a closing statement at the trial to give an hours-long monologue, repeating his denial of the Holocaust and expressing his sympathy for Richard Williamson, the Roman Catholic bishop whose assertion that no Jews were gassed during the Holocaust embarrassed the Vatican.
"The rage of the people is at the boiling point," he said in defense of Williamson, telling the judges: "Watch out that you don't get scalded."

Rieder sentenced Mahler to one year above the maximum recommended five years in prison, saying he is "completely unrepentant and totally unteachable."
"It was as if these people have had to die again," Rieder said. "Therefore, the Horst Mahler show has now ended."
The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Jerusalem hailed the verdict and sentence.
"It reinforces the message that there's no tolerance for Holocaust denial, and it is a strong reminder that the courts should not be misused by deniers to disseminate their lies," said the Wiesenthal Center's Efraim Zuroff.
Mahler did not say in court whether he would appeal the sentence but prosecutor Andrea Titz said she was certain he would.
It was the latest in a string of neo-Nazi-related convictions for Mahler, who is a lawyer. In addition, a court in Mainz in 2003 found Mahler guilty of condoning a crime for saying the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in the United States were justified and fined him several thousand euros (dollars).
He was also convicted in the mid-1970s for Red Army Faction-related activities — including several bank robberies and for helping notorious terrorist Andreas Baader, another founding member of the group, to escape from jail.
He was sentenced to 14 years in prison but was released in 1980 after he made several public statements condemning terrorism and Red Army Faction methods.
Mahler then joined the far-right National Democratic Party, from 2000 to 2003, and acted as its attorney.

They executed a lot of RAF-members in jail back in the day, I don't suppose they could do one for old time's sake?

Great news, this dirty traitor gets what he deserves! I hope he won't return from prison alive and since he's 70 the chances of leaving prison in a bodybag are rather good. :)

Another Anti-Imp/Maoist who eventually came to think that Germany was an 'oppressed nation' and nationalism therefore a progressive force. From there, the step towards Strasserite nazism and 'ZOG' conspiracy theories was not a massive one.

It's good to see that some of us find homophobia and sexual violence acceptable.

I'm sure our nazi friend will come out with a new found tolerance and respect when he emerges.

The guy is obviously a traitor and prick, but anyone who agrees with him being imprisoned for Holocaust denial can read my post here. (http://www.revleft.com/vb/showpost.php?p=1366313&postcount=32) Certainly it's different in Germany which is extra sensitive to that subject, but ultimately these laws should not be applied to any country.
Addressing some other points in this thread:

ass-raped enough to become homosexual

I hope he gets a nice husband in there.
I know the emotion involved in sentiment toward fascists is strong and hopefully the geneal feeling on the board is one of vehement opposition to them and their tactics. But them being subjected to rape in prison is not something we want to advocate nor encourage on any human being.

Are you suggesting that there is a thin line between anti-imperialism and Maoism, and the fascism this asshole advocates?

The fact that a good number of old-school Anti-Imps and Maoists have eventually converted to Strasserite neo-nazism with stunning ease suggests that there is a certain continuity in their decisions rather than a 100% u turn and betrayal of their former selves.

People who have personally known Mahler or Michael Kuhnen (German neo-nazi leader in the 70s-90s, also an ex-Maoist) attested that despite their apparently shocking conversion to national socialism, much of their thinking remained just the same. The step towards NS is triggered by their 'realisation' that Germany is an "oppressed nation" and nationalism therefore progressive. From there, it's easy to see how they arrive at the belief that American imperialists may be spreading lies about Germany's past in order to justify her oppression.

This is a frequently observed phenomenon in Germany (I'm sure Malte could tell us one story or another), but I also remember Devrim recently mentioning some ex-Maoist group in Turkey who are now collaborating with fascists on the grounds that Turkey is an "oppressed nation", too.

I'm not claiming that Anti-Imperialism or Maoism are the same as Strasserite neo-nazism, but it's becoming clearer to me how the notion of 'progressive nationalism of oppressed nations' puts one firmly on the road to no good, and in many ways.

It is amazing how quick the anti-fascists are to cheer on the actions of the state. The homophobic current running through this thread is also disturbing.

The group I was referring to is the İşçi Partisi (http://www.ip.org.tr/) who basically moved from being a Maoist pro-Kurdish nationalist party to being a quasi-Maoist collaborating with Turkish fascists party. I don't see this as something that is particularly a part of Maoism. I see it as something which comes with support for national liberation struggles, which of course is intrinsic to Maoism. You can also see the same sort of rhetoric in the emergence of German and Italian fascism, with a similar sort of line being taken by the KPD in Germany.

The shift is actually very small. Once you have this idea of supporting 'oppresed nations' if your analysis then concludes that your nation is oppresed, you logically end up fighting along side other 'patriotic national forces'.

The last time I bought a copy of the İP magazine, it had as a headline and a main article "Today there is no left or right, only patriots".

It is a logical development of their politics.

While that may be true (in the sense that we have to be on our guard for stuff like this), there were also lots of people who shifted back and forth between the CNT and the Falange before the spanish civil war. So, going over to fascism from revolutionary leftism is not something confined to those evil leninists, but also occurs in the ranks of the ever-so-noble anarchists.
