Alright chaps!

I'm planning a trip from Mexico to Argentina as soon as I can save the money, so I'd appreciate any information about how to travel ethically, without paying money to big companies, ensuring that local people get my money etc. I can get from Mexico to Panama for about seventy quid (105 dollars) on a coach, but I want to get out of Panama, through Colombia and into Venezuala as quickly as possible since Panama is expensive and dull, and I'm not particularly interested in Colombia.

I have thought about buying a motorcycle in Colombia where it will be cheap and riding it from Venezuala down the east coast of South America to Argentina, does anyone know how easy this will be, and how much it will cost? I'm looking for cheap and cheerful, I don't have a license and I doubt I will be able to afford insurance. What will border police have to say about this?

I'm not worried about danger, I should be shot at by bandits at least once in my life, but I need to know about cheap places to stay, cheap ways of travelling from one country to another and any advice you have at all!

Will be very grateful for any advice!

Cheers, DubFox

There are lots of cheap hostels and boarding houses in South America. I'd advise you to pick up a Lonely Planet guidebook for a listing of them and recommendations.
