Hello comrades,

I am a 30 year-old male and I have firmly believed in socialist/communist ideals since I was 15. I am not sure what faction I belong to. I have never been a member of any political party. Personally, I think factionalism and internal disputes have caused great harm to the world's progressive movements. Nations of the world all are developing at different speeds. One can not build socialism until there is a class-conscious proletariat. Some countries & movements want to skip certain phases of development and jump straight from feudalism and post-colonial agrarian society to communism. As thrilled as I am seeing the recent developments in Nepal, i am a bit worried about this. So I guess, I am not a Maoist

Hello FInn,

I was curious:

Is communism a majority view in Finland?

Do the Finns retain any resentment or hatred towards Russia for WWII?

Finland had strong anti-communism before WWII. But after we lost WWII (allied with Nazis), the peace agreement obligated our government to de-criminalize Communist Party. It indeed became very strong in the 60's and 70's. Finland was the only country bordering USSR that was allowed to keep its market economy, though heavily regulated. Mutual economic pacts between the USSR and Finland helped Finland to modernize and industrialize. The economic growth was generally fast until the fall of USSR, which lead to severe depression and unemployment. The depression lasted nearly 10 years. We still have higher unemployment figures than before the breakup of USSR.

Some older generation may still have anti-Russian feelings. Finland lost 10% of her territory to Russia in the WWII peace deal. Some right-wing revisionist would like to get that territory back.

Terve toveri!

Welcome to the forum! I would like to add that during recent years conservatism has reared its ugly head, and communist hatred and red scares are rising again, albeit slowly.

Yeah but many of them are not hot at all. This is off course my opinion and I anyway prefer brunettes. ( Latinas ) If you like strong minded and wannabe-man type of women then welcome.
Off course there are also many feminim women , but not that so much than many other countries in EU.
Ja FinCommunistille tervetuloa! :)

No it isn't. The communist party doesn't have any places in the parliament. The leftist party does, but they are loosing in popularity to Perussuomalaiset, which is a right wing conservative working class party. Social democrats instead have always been very popular and still are. Our president has always been a social democrat since the early 1980's.

Yes, though the resentment has older roots than WWII. When Finland was part of Sweden, Russia was from time to time trying (and occasionally succeeding) to conquer Finland. They finally got their way in 1809, and Finland gained independence from Russia in 1917. I'd say there's also fear towards Russia in addition to resentment/hatred. This is true for the older generations mostly, but also for young nationalists.

And nice to see other finns out here.:)
