From what I've heard theres a TUC led protest in London on the 28th March. On 1st April theres an anti-war protest, and then in Strabourg on the 4th/5th theres a conference and protests.
Is anyone here going to any of these events? Any ideas on numbers?
Any UK comrades going to Strasbourg? Any (general, no specifics, security culture etc) info on how you're getting there? Anyone running any coahces, accomodation, etc? Any ideas on numbers? If you want to keep anything hush hush PM me.

You appear to be more interested in international demos than organising in your own area in general H-L-V-S?

What can I say, I don't have a holiday booked this year and I want a political one :D
I'd have to disagree with you though Organize!, I'm very active over here, I'd just like to go abroad for some political action, to see how things are and practice internationalist solidarity.

i'll be at strasbourg, as for numbers, the general impression among comrades over here is that it'll be G8-like. I think it might be very big, seeing whats been happening in France.

Wish I could be there! What else is going on in other cities?
In Canada we are doing an Out of Afghanistan, out of NATO mobilization in many cities in solidarity while tying it in to the issues at home.

Its a pretty easy trip for me to make in my present circumstances (i'm currently living in Prague for the next few months and helping to build our IST group here). So i'll almost definitely be there, but I would definitely say that for UK comrades London is the most important one to get to. Sure, it may be 'glamorous' to go overseas to protest, but we have a responsiblility to build in our own areas first and foremost.

I may be going down to London with a few folk. I have uni then but I can miss a few days :D
We are making our way by train but have discussed meeting with contacts and groups and going together which should cut costs. I have a lot of faith in the UK this year and I believe the London demos should be decent.

I dont think we will experience anything like Iceland, Latvia, Greece, France etc. Did I miss any? The list is getting long :) Smile mate. Britain cares too. Gaza demos?

But thats 'acceptable' revolt. Its either contained, or its a small fringe doing some petty damage. We need organised mass opposition.

Not to discredit the protests and all but it was single issues, and it didn't move on to anything. I was on all the Gaza protests and it was a bit of anger, justified, a lot of police repression, just the normal protest march with an edge, a bit more militancy. It was good, better than a normal, calm Stop the War demo but we need more, and I don't mean a riot which lasts 1 day, ends in 100 arrests and acheives nothing.

I expect the protests around the G20 conference in London to be very large. What is the mood in London for this? What is expected?

Could be very large on 28th, Police seem likely to be very provocative based on recent demonstrations and their "pre publicity", particularly towards perceived "radical elements" who are handily forming themselves into blocs! (Durr)
Demonstration likely to be fairly angry anyway, as even the mildest reformists now feel themselves to have been totally betrayed by the British Labour Government in foreign, domestic and economic policy (authoritarianism, war and pandering to big business). Seems to me radicals would be better served using demo as an opportunity to propagandise as much as possible for more permanent and substantial opposition and organisation at workplace and community level amongst the large numbers of pissed off people who are there, rather than getting "kettled".
Whatever happens on 28th, various radical actions being planned around the summit itself.
The mood might be changed by events between now and then - for example in France around 19th, and by further economic developments.

My plan is to stay at my mates in London for all of this. I'll take loads of uni work with me to keep myself busy in between protests and make sure I don't fall behind. He doesn't know I'm staying yet though

Alot of things went down, police cracked down repressively as per usual, good to see banners expressing solidarity with us in London though.

Fuck this was one crazy weekend, the french police seems to shoot their teargas at whatever is moving. I will take some days to discuss the events with my group and then might write a report here. Untill now there is so much (dis)information around about who burned what and what the police did.
All i can say is crazy weekend, some injured people and i hope everyone on here got home savely, as i did.
