It seems that there has been a split in the Maoist Party in Nepal. While splits are not necessarily a bad thing or a major obstacle, this does seem to be a major split. Matrika Yadav has left the party to "reconstitute the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)".
See above link for full analysis of split

How can we know if this is a major split?
The information we have so far only says that comrade Yadav split. We don't know how much support he has.
(Also, keeping in mind that the UCPN(M) is a huge party, a "major" split would have to involve a quite significant number of splitters.)

Well it is hard to tell the full scope of the split, but it is major in that Matrika Yadav is a very central member of the UCPN(M). I dont know how big his support is, but it is especially significant because he is a Madhesi, and the Madhesi issue is probably the biggest issue in the political situation of Nepal, and therefore his departure makes it harder again for the Maoists to reach out to that community.
Again this split more than anything is just a reflection of the Situation of the Maoists, and the dire need to progress, in particular in land reform.

Seriously they need to get over themselves and work this shit out, party splits are often the direct result of some of the biggest defeats movements of the left can suffer.
I hate when this shit happens.

I doubt this is a large split. Matrika Yadav is the only high-profile, leading member of the Maoists to have split as far as we know at this time, so that doesn't reflect a large level of support within the party for his decision. I've always liked him and his militant approach but splitting at this point is counter-productive.

From the blog:
However, if conditions with the UCPN(M) has deteriorated so much already, then Matrika may just be saving some revolutionary cadre to struggle for another day, of which revolutionaries everywhere would be thankful.

History will prove beyond doubt weather this split is right or wrong but at this stage i dont think it is correct. Read the full article for the analysis, but i think this split more than anything is just a reflection of the pressures on the Maoists and the fact that so far they havent been able to get the progress they have promised.
As the article says, its a make or break time for the revolution there, either onwards to deepen it, or it will stagnate and die
