Ok, this isn't really a question. It's more something I have to do for school. I am currently taking a Law class(it's high school by the way) and one of our assignments is to come up with an alternate to Canada's legal system. I have a teacher who is more for punishment than rehabilitation so he posed this question to us. Anyway, as a leftist I would want a system that is compatible with a Socialist society. How would this work?

I think looking at Restorative Justice models (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restorative_Justice#Restorative_Justice_Processes) would be helpful to create a "progressive" criminal justice system.

Family Group Conferencing, Community Restorative Boards, and Sentencing Circles seem pretty good, provided that all "officials" (e.g. judge, jury) are elected by the affected community.

You can argue that de-centralizing the justice system (no Supreme Court) allows the sentences to be more democratic; some old judge in Ottawa doesn't necessarily know what sentence is best for the offender and victim community in Nanaimo.

I dont' know if I'm being very clear - I hope you get my point.

Just have like a hardcore class war legal system. Have like the death penalty for "crimes against the revolution" and so on. Even exaggerate it for comedic effect. Your teacher will love it and give you an A+.

Seriously though, restorative justice really deserves some looking at. But your teacher doesn't seem big on rehabilitation. So back to executing class enemies I guess.

Haha! Love it! Too bad my teacher is so serious all the time. I have a feeling he won't find it funny...

If you wanted to get an "F" but still be correct:

- abolish capitalism.

- abolish the state.

- People can help each other.

*end unjustice system*
