What are the chances of seeing this? Apparently there have been talks about it and Chavez plans on trying to start it up.

I don't really believe that it will happen but we can hope. If it ever would, when do you predict it would come about?

Would anyone even like a Fifth International? I know I would.

Discuss.

By name, there already is a fifth international, the UK's Worker's Power and 7 other sections form the L5I. ;)
Seriously, I don't know what would become of a new international led by the PSUV, it's easy to see who would be part of it in South America, but not in other areas like the US or Europe where it would either have tiny sections with no real influence in society or encompass the parties already forming EL (european left), only a few of which are actual socialist parties. I also think that there are virtually no parties around (outside South America) whose views sufficiently match Chavez' to form an efficient international.

It would be interesting to see, but I agree with the previous poster in that it would only have a real mass influence in Latin America. For Europe such an organisation would be an empty shell.

What about Asia and Africa?

Big socialist parties are the exception rather than the rule. A change in the objective situation, a revolution in Venezuela for example, might change that, but for now I think that a "fifth international" is too premature.

Its a great idea, and I hope it happens. It would bring strength and solidarity to socialism in many countries, and the UK would definately benifit

I think it would be worth supporting if Chavez at least managed to get a good deal of support outside of latin america. If the masses supported it, then yea it would be great to have a mass international workers organization even if its main guy was Chavez.

But if it doesn't have much mass support then i would say its a waste of time.

I hope it will come one day. It doesn't seem if it's going to happen right away, but who knows, the world is always changing...

I personally would absolutely agree with such an International, and try to cooperate with it or even join it.
In modern days, there is no time for dogmatic differences between Communist ideologies which are actually very close to one another.
