I have some movies I want to burn on a DVD but my old dvd player doesn't recognize it. I tried to convert it a couple different ways but without luck

any help?

Encode the avi as mpeg1 or mpeg2 then burn the file as a video CD/video DVD

Yhea Nero should work.

Nero does all sorts of compression in converting video.
FFmpeg (and the Mediacoder front-end (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net)) converts as losslessly as possible.

I burn AVI to DVD using imtoo dvd creator. Acquire it from a torent or rapidshare.

check if the DVD's are 'DVD+' or 'DVD-' and if this matches the type the player supports...
