Facebook is celebrating its fifth birthday. How have Twitter, MySpace, Bebo and the rest changed your life?

It was suggested I join 2, and I have, but I have yet to see their purpose.

I also did twitter and I never use it. Facebook seems rather silly to me.

I use facebook. Because of some of the tools and the fact that a lot of young people are on it makes it actually a pretty good tool to connect with people (provided it isn't your only tool), especially people my age. I've used it to promote events before... last year was the first year we used it to promote May Day in my city, and we seemed to get more people my age out than the past two years (including representatives from the biggest student union in the province).

Although, there are a lot of issues with privacy and the banning of the Blackadder One

I use Facebook, and I think it's a good way to keep in touch with people, as well as let people know about events/causes etc.

Not sure if these count, but I would encourage everyone here to use reddit.com, digg.com, and similar sites to promote your ideas.

Some of my more recent posts to reddit (often reposts of the good stuff you guys bring to revleft):

I use some of these, but very restricted. (Only my surname, no pictures, no stories). These things can be very usefull for staying in touch with friends (though really, if you didn't ever call them, didn't do anything with them, and now write messages on an internet board how important are they to you really?.)

But these things are a huge security risk. We had some cases in Germany where the Anti-Antifa took pictures, addresses, connections between people and even stories from theses sites. Also its common that bosses google their workers and applicants, which can be a real problem. So whenever posting on these you should really ask yourself if what you are about to post is really needed. There is certainly nothing wrong with wanting to portray yourself in a certain way, we all do, but really in a place accesable for EVERYONE? Its just an advice, dont take political activity to lightly, if you are REALLY active, you will soon notice that the whole thing about repression is not just words but you might actually get trouble with the police, so give them (and anyone who might give you problems) as few information as possible.

I use facebook to talk with my brother while he is at work, and myspace to keep up with what is going on with my buddies. I use a fake name and joke information on myspace, and my facebook account is rarely used.

I had a myspace back when it was "cool" but I've since deleted my profile. I have a facebook, but I rarely ever use it and am thinking about deleting my profile there too. I think facebook is the worst of them all, with all the inane status updates and tagging.

So how did it go ?
Let me tell you, when I deleted my Facebook profile e-mails just kept coming and phone kept ringing.
At one moment I had the strangest "Thruman Show" like experience where it seems like all my friends were actually facebook employees

First few days is hard, especially if you did use it alot like I did
It sucks you in with all of the old highschool friends popping out, that felt great.
But eventually I came to realise "fuck I turned my friends into virtual friends" !

In the end I'm far more content in having only a few of them with who I can meet up and have a beer then hundreds of status-updating-freaks.

And now that facebook is loosing momentum everyone runs to Twitter..
Care to follow my Tweets on what I'm doing each moment of every day?
What part of that sentence sound most gay to you ? (no disrespect to normal homosexual people)

As some of you guys mentioned, it's a good propaganda tool for our cause and regarding that we should exploit all the social networking sites.
I say "bring the socialism to social networking"
Other then that.. you really play their game.
We are socialists dammit, we should be hooked on reality

Twitter is for narcissists who think the rest of us give a shit what they're doing 24/7.

Facebook is cool with me.

Fascists around here are way too disorganized and "soft" to target leftists just for sport. That seems to be confined (mostly) to Europe. The governments there should stop promoting the radical right with their censorship policies.

I deleted my facebook and never looked back. I suggest everybody do the same, unless, of course, you are making headway in the propaganda department.

I deleted both profiles I had on myspace and facebook. Total waste of time.
